Ubisoft Bordeaux

Founded in 2017, Ubisoft Bordeaux is passionately dedicated to working on top-tier AAA games to deliver the best gaming experiences. Today, the studio has over 400 talents from 20 different nationalities working on renowned franchises such as Assassin’s Creed, Beyond Good & Evil 2, as well as other unannounced projects.

Additionally, the studio houses a Tech branch that develops Ubisoft’s online services (Online Services) and contributes to the Anvil game engine. It also hosts an R&D unit, La Forge, where engineers and researchers collaborate on prototypes to support game development, particularly in AI-related areas.

JOB DESCRIPTION

As Technical Director - Level Design (F/M/NB), you will play a key role in designing and optimizing the technical tools and processes related to Level Design. Your responsibilities include:

  • Defining the technical direction for Level Design, with a strong focus on world-building
  • Collaborating with technical and creative teams to implement production pipelines
  • Challenging and validating the technical feasibility of pipelines, features, and tools (data) to ensure optimal efficiency and expected quality
  • Ensuring the technical validation of levels/worlds and their components
  • Supervising and supporting project teams on technical aspects related to Level Design/World Building
  • Contributing to project planning, ensuring stability, optimization, and bug resolution
  • Writing technical documentation, especially regarding tools and pipelines used
  • Staying up to date with the latest technical developments in the industry to anticipate and integrate innovations into projects
  • Acting as the main technical point of contact for teams, ensuring smooth communication between different departments

QUALIFICATIONS

Technical Skills

  • Significant experience in Technical Level Design, with previous experience as a Lead or Technical Director (or Assistant Technical Director) on a AAA game
  • Proficiency in a game engine and its Level Design tools
  • Strong knowledge of production pipelines and data management tools
  • Deep understanding of the technical and artistic constraints of Level Design
  • Experience in performance optimization and technical debugging
  • Ability to write clear and accessible technical documentation

Soft Skills

  • Leadership and ability to support technical teams
  • Excellent communication and project management skills
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks
  • Ability to anticipate technical challenges and propose innovative solutions
