Ubisoft Toronto is one of the most significant development studios within Ubisoft, employing talented developers worldwide. Since opening in 2010, we have shipped innovative game projects on Ubisoft’s most prominent brands: Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, Watch Dogs, For Honor and Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell.

We recently launched Far Cry 6, the most ambitious Far Cry game to date, featuring the talented Giancarlo Esposito as Anton Castillo. Our studio has also led the development of the newest game in the Watch Dogs franchise – Watch Dogs: Legion (2020), a stand out for its tech and design work, play as anyone gameplay in an open world, and rich and detailed rendition of a future London. Starlink: Battle for Atlas (2018) was Ubisoft Toronto’s first new IP, which seamlessly blended physical and digital gameplay. Splinter Cell Blacklist was the first title released by Ubisoft Toronto in 2013. We have an exciting roadmap of projects for the future and can’t wait to share more details.

JOB DESCRIPTION

We’re working on a Splinter Cell remake, assembling a team with passion, drive and respect for the trifocal goggles. This is an opportunity to be part of a treasured franchise, rebuilt on Ubisoft’s Snowdrop engine to deliver next-generation visuals and modernized stealth gameplay, while preserving what's at the heart of the Splinter Cell experience.

On Being a Scriptwriter at Ubisoft Toronto
Using the first Splinter Cell game as our foundation we are rewriting and updating the story for a modern-day audience. We want to keep the spirit and themes of the original game while exploring our characters and the world to make them more authentic and believable. As a Scriptwriter at Ubisoft Toronto, you will join the Narrative team and help create a cohesive and compelling narrative experience for a new audience of Splinter Cell fans.

Type of Position: Permanent, full-time; Toronto, Ontario; Hybrid, flexible work environment

The daily life of a Scriptwriter at Ubisoft Toronto

  • Writing compelling dialogue for in-game mission VO and Cinematic scenes
  • Writing both scripted and systemic dialogue including barks and NPC conversation
  • Developing character arcs and story beats through dialogue and other narrative elements
  • Revising and editing dialogue based on director/lead feedback to ensure quality and consistency
  • Participate in narrative reviews and provide feedback and suggestions
  • Collaborating with relevant internal teams, such as narrative design, audio, animation, level design, and AI to maintain and ensure narrative continuity and logic
  • Using in-house systems to implement dialogue into the game engine

QUALIFICATIONS

What you bring
You have a passion for interactive storytelling and a background in games, film, TV, or theater. Your deep knowledge of writing compelling stories in close collaboration with other disciplines makes you a natural at creating immersive worlds full of lore and exciting adventures. Your creativity knows no limits, but you also understand the value of a good brief, meeting deadlines, and know constructive feedback, both when you give and receive it in a dynamic and flexible environment.

Besides the above we’re looking for someone aligned with our core values and the following skills and experience:

  • A relevant portfolio is required (2-3 writing samples that showcase your strongest work, and a longer/screenplay sample with ~10 pages or less. See our portfolio tips here)
  • Proven experience crafting and developing stories, writing dialogue and various other content from concept to completion within a large production (Ideally larger scale stories and/or key quest or mission content for AAA games)
  • Experience working in a writers' room or similar collaborative environment
  • Ability to follow an established style guide and rules of usage
  • Ability to communicate complex narrative ideas to stakeholders from other disciplines
  • Experience with a non-linear narrative structure is preferred
  • Strong copy-editing skills are essential
