YOUR SKILL = YOUR RANK
Ranked is the competitive core of Rainbow Six Siege, and Ranked 3.0 represents a complete overhaul of the system. Built around player feedback, this update focuses on clearer progression, improved matchmaking, and more rewarding Ranked play.
Ranked 3.0 removes hidden MMR, so that your skill is truly your rank. It also introduces Placement Matches, a new Competitive Rewards track, squad restrictions, and changes to the Champion rank.
PLACEMENT MATCHES
At the start of each season, players will complete 5 Placement Matches before receiving their starting Rank.
These matches grant increased Rank Point gains to help ensure players reach the level they were at in the previous season more quickly. Once completed, players receive their starting Rank and continue progressing normally.
Placement Matches do not include Squad Restrictions, allowing players to queue freely with friends regardless of Rank.
COMPETITIVE REWARDS
Every Ranked match now contributes toward a Competitive Rewards progression track.
Players earn:
- 2 points for a win
- 1 point for a loss
Every time 10 points are earned, a new reward will be unlocked. They will be as follows:
- 10 points - 2500 Competitive Coins
- 20 points - 2 Alpha Pack
- 30 points - Card Background
- 40 points - 2 Alpha Pack
- 50 points - 4000 Competitive Coins
- 60 points - 2 Alpha Pack
- 70 points - 2500 Competitive Coins
- 80 points - Charm
- 90 points - 2 Alpha Pack
- 100 points - 3000 Competitive Coins
- 110 points - 2 Alpha Pack
- 120 points - 3000 Competitive Coins
- 130 points - 2 Alpha Pack
- 140 points - 5000 Competitive Coins
- 150 points - Headgear
Rank-based rewards are tied to the highest Rank achieved during the season, even if a player later deranks.
The goal of this system is to make Ranked progression rewarding for all players throughout the season.
RANK & RANK POINTS
Your rank is now the primary representation of your skill.
After every match, players gain or lose Rank Points (RP) based on:
- Match outcome
- Relative team Rank balance
Winning against stronger opponents grants more RP, while losing to lower-ranked teams results in larger RP losses.
The post-match report clearly displays RP changes after each game, improving transparency and helping players better understand their progression.
DEMOTION SHIELD
Demotion Shield protections remain active in Ranked 3.0.
If a player would normally derank after a loss, the system can instead leave them at 0 RP for that division. This protection only applies if the player started the match above 0 RP.
RP BASED MATCHMAKING
The goal of Ranked matchmaking is to create fair matches while maintaining healthy queue times. To achieve this, Matchmaking will shift to only using your Rank Points, not MMR, to match you with opponents.
Team balancing is calculated at the squad level first. When squads contain large Rank gaps, the system weights the team closer to the higher-ranked player to better reflect the squad’s overall strength.
This balancing directly impacts RP gains and losses:
- Defeating stronger teams grants additional RP
- Beating lower-ranked teams grants reduced RP
- Losing to lower-ranked teams results in larger RP penalties
SQUAD RESTRICTIONS
To maintain competitive integrity, Ranked 3.0 introduces Squad Restrictions.
Copper to Emerald can queue with teammates within 3 full Ranks of their own Rank.
Diamond and Champion players are limited to teammates within 2 full Ranks.
These restrictions are designed to reduce extreme Rank disparities while preserving matchmaking balance.
MAP BAN PHASE
The Map Ban phase now includes 5 maps total:
- 3 maps from the Pro Pool
- 2 maps from the Seasonal Pool
If the Showcased Pool is used in a season (which will be the case in Season 2 with Calypso Casino), the Map Ban phase will include:
- 1 Showcased Map
- 2 maps from the Pro Pool
- 2 maps from the Seasonal Pool
The standard Map Ban phase format (3 Pro Pool maps + 2 Seasonal Pool maps) will return at mid-season. New seasonal maps introduced during a season will appear in every Map Ban phase until the mid-season update and will remain unbannable throughout the entire season.
CHAMPION & LEGEND DIVISIONS
Champion Rank now includes 5 divisions, matching the rest of the Ranked ladder.
The featured leaderboard will now live at the Champion I rank, showcasing the highest-performing players. In Season 3, the Legend Division will replace this leaderboard.
Ranked 3.0 also sets the stage for the new Legend Division, planned for Season 3, which will require:
- Reach Platinum Rank or higher in Season 2 & Champion in Season 3
- R6ShieldGuard Secure Platform
- App-based two-factor authentication
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?
Ranked 3.0 is designed to deliver a more transparent, rewarding, and competitive Ranked experience.
With clearer progression, improved matchmaking, expanded rewards, and updated competitive systems, players should experience better matches and more consistent progression throughout the season.
We will continue monitoring player feedback and Ranked data closely as Ranked 3.0 evolves over future seasons.
