Twenty-five years on, Morning View still sounds like the room it was made in. Incubus mark the album's anniversary on Rocksmith+ with eight of its songs, from "Just a Phase" and "11 am" through to "Aqueous Transmission", each with bass, lead guitar and a chord chart.
The record was made in a rented house in Malibu, and that setting worked its way into the music rather than just the story around it. "Aqueous Transmission" is the clearest case: Mike Einziger plays the pipa, a Chinese lute, in place of the guitar you would expect, and the last stretch of the song is the sound of the frogs outside the house. Taking eight of these back to back is a short course in how far a rock band can stray from its own template and still sound like itself.
