Community Spotlight – Heinz - Skull and Bones Tools

Hello Captains, we're back once again with another Community Spotlight segment on one of our Keepers of the Code and creator of the loved and trusted Skull and Bones Tools website.

Hey Heinz, can you tell us a little bit about yourself? How long have you been a member of the Skull and Bones' Community?

Heinz: Hi all,
I'm Heinz and most people probably know me as the author of the Skull and Bones Tools.

However, I've also been around the game for some years now, with the first time, that I could play the game being in 2022, which was back then Insider Phase 4. Actually needed to look that up, since some years have already passed.

Later then I joined the wider community with on the main discord and also started the development of Skull and Bones Tools in late 2023 with the first tool being the Calculator.

Since then, everything, the game, the community and SnB Tools has developed quite a lot!

What does Skull and Bones and the community mean to you?

Heinz: For me Skull and Bones is the game I always wanted to play, sailing with my ship around starting with a small dhow and nowadays even going up to a frigate, fighting mythic bosses and curious encounters, or just casually ravaging a convoy that sails by.

All these features and the world around it are nice, but the community fills it with life. The moment when we defeated La Peste's Bastion in Y1S1 for the first time with the whole server involved and only some minutes left was thrilling. The regattas as an example were a nice combination of interaction and challenge between community member's, trying to squeeze out every second possible while also giving other members tips on consumables or wind direction.

What's your favourite thing about being a member of the Skull and Bones community?

Heinz: I would compare the community to the tide, some players may leave others come back or new players join, there is always a very engaged core of players that ensure you have water under your keel. If you need support on any topic or a group of players to try something out, you'll will always find people willing to help you in game or on topics around it no matter how random the question is!

This willingness to help, no matter what the state of the game may be, is what I value most about the community.

What advice would you give to a player picking up Skull and Bones for the first time?

Heinz: Don't rush to Kingpin. Take your time and enjoy the world and contracts you encounter on your journey to becoming a Kingpin. Be it the first time traversing the ocean to the East Indies, building the first middle sized ship or encountering the Hubac Twins in person.

Tough question time, what's your favourite part of Skull and Bones? And why?

Heinz: Having one favourite part is difficult for a game that can be played in various ways, this variation is probably my favourite part about it. On some days I just like to sail around in my brigantine, enjoying the sunset and doing some convoys along the way. On other days I travel from world event to world event, sink enemies of all factions and maybe do some Megafort runs in the end.

Having these options, without the fear to miss-out on something if I don't farm world events one day, is nice and for me one of the favourite parts of the game!

If you could tell the Community anything about Skull and Bones what would that be?

Heinz: Hm difficult question, as most of the community know the game very well.

Maybe for the newer players out there, going into their first larger world events, try to also look out for your pirate colleagues, by not ramming them, stopping in front of them and blocking their sight and guns, or maybe to drop them a Little Grace if they are in need of one 😊

Thank you so much for your time! Is there one last thing you'd like to say to the readers?

Heinz: I would like to take this chance, to say thank you to all the people that have invested heavily their time in posting bugs, sharing detailed feedback and participate in the insider sessions.

The same goes to all users of SnB Tools who share their loadouts, provide feedback about the site, improvement ideas or just share their excitement about the site! This is what motivates me to continuously update and expand the site, to keep SnB Data up to date and in general pushes me forward!

If you want to contribute something yourself to these projects, they are an Open Source! You can find SnB Data over on Github and the translation project on Crowdin.
