Community Spotlight - RubyNXT

Hi, Captains!

As our newest Twitch Drops campaign are now live, we couldn’t think of a better time for another Community Spotlight. Today, we’re catching up with RubyNXT - Keeper of the Code, Cosplayer, and Content Creator.

Hey Rubynxt, can you tell us a little bit about yourself? How long have you been a member of the Skull and Bones’ Community?

  • RubyNXT: Hi! You can call me Ruby or Rubynxt. I’m a streamer, cosplayer, and gamer from Singapore. I love pirates so Skull and Bones attracted me when it was first announced, and also the fact that it’s developed in my own home country.

I’ve been a Skull and Bones community member since 2017 and joined the Keepers of the Code program in 2018 (this was before the public Insiders program was launched, so really early on). I helped moderate the community Discord up until around the time the game officially launched, and life got too busy for me. Currently, I’m still in the Keeper of the Code program to share my ongoing feedback and suggestions for the game.

What does Skull and Bones and the community mean to you?

  • RubyNXT: Being a part of the community since nearly the beginning means I’ve seen the different iterations of the game, the reboots, discussions, burnout, all the good and bad over the years. The Community Developers are very involved with community feedback, so I feel like my voice does matter. Even if they cannot implement some suggestions, the devs have always been listening.

I’ve also made many friends along the way, especially the original Community Discord server regulars and mod team members over the years. I've even been fortunate to meet some of them in person from across different parts of the world. No matter which way the game goes in future, this chapter will remain an important part of my lore.

When the Community Team reached out to me to design my own personal emblem to be included in the game, I felt touched that they would remember a longtime community member like me even though I'm not “relevant” or famous compared to big name content creators.

What’s your favourite thing about being a member of the Skull and Bones community?

  • RubyNXT: The community is overall friendly and helpful; all you have to do is reach out and other players are always game to help you with missions or give advice. It’s also great to see how passionate players are with creating ship builds, video guides, sharing their pirate captain outfits, and even creating tools to help the whole player base have more fun (shoutout to Heinz's website, T’s Trading server, all my favourite content creators, and so many others).

What advice would you give to a player picking up Skull and Bones for the first time?

  • RubyNXT: Have fun and play the way you like, whether it’s super casual or super serious. There's no “correct” way to play. I recommend picking a captain or ship cosmetic that you want to unlock, because fashion is the real endgame, right?

Tough question time, what’s your favourite part of Skull and Bones? And why?

  • RubyNXT: The immersion is great. The graphics in the game are amazing, especially when you know how much work goes into every detail like the water tech. In the daytime, the water sparkles under the sunlight, and at night I find myself sailing under the stars. Along the way, I'd also bump into pirates, privateers, and random factions in the middle of combat with each other. There's always a chance I'd get pulled into battles.

If you could tell the Community anything about Skull and Bones what would that be?

  • RubyNXT: It's ok if you don't like certain parts of the game or don't have time or energy to do the events. I don't force myself to play. Personal fun and enjoyment should come first.

Tell us 3 cool facts about yourself:

  • RubyNXT:
    • I play the harp! I started learning as I wanted to play video game music that I love. That's why my personal emblem has a harp.
    • I make time to play a lot of indie games, especially from Southeast Asia. Gotta support my own region!
    • I'm a cosplayer! I've cosplayed from various games and anime over the past decade or so.

Thank you so much for your time! Is there one last thing you'd like to say to the readers?

  • RubyNXT: There's never a bad time to jump back into the game. Despite taking plenty of breaks, I found it easy to pick up where I left off. The community will help you along the way.

Catch RubyNXT live from March 10th to March 24th and tune in during the streams on her channel to claim the exclusive "Ruby of the Reefs " emblem,
