My biggest complaint about this game is the team-killing. It enables so much blatant toxicity, and I don't see the point in keeping it in the game. I mean... I get the arguement that, "it makes the game more realistic, and it's a tactical shooter" yada yada. All I'm saying is if it's gotten to the point where they needed to add reversed damage for people who abuse this mechanic, then why not just remove it altogether. If we're looking at the game as a whole, "realistic" is slowly losing it's relativity, and I honestly wouldn't be bothered seeing this one aspect of the game removed so it can be more enjoyable.
When it comes to toxic players, I can always mute them, and then proceed to try my best to accomplish "something" as the toxic player proceeds to screw over our team. But even if I mute, I can't stop a player from killing me, ruining my fun. If team-killing was simply removed, all I'd ever have to worry about is just clicking the mute button, and dealing with whatever other unorthodox methods the toxic player uses to try and screw me over. At least I'll still be alive and able to play I suppose.
I mean, I look at another popular tactical shooter game that is MUCH younger than siege, and strays far from realism, and DOESN'T have team-killing... all that and yet it's still thriving. In fact it's doing better than R6 in terms of player count and overall interest. I'm willing to bet that part of the reason for that is because of it's much more accepting atmosphere. And sure, if you know what game I'm talking about there are several reasons why it may be more successful than R6 (both games being successful albeit). However I'm willing to bet that a big reason why this one game is more preferable compared to the other is because no one is getting shot in the head by teammates... EVER.
Toxicity is in every game to some extent. Rainbow 6 seige is pretty infamous for having one of the most toxic communities. Maybe removing team-killing won't stop people from calling you a such-and-such in 15 different ways, but at least you can shut them up and try to salvage some enjoyment from that match while you're stuck there. Something that isn't all that possible or easy currently.
Please someone give me an irrefutable reason, as to why team-killing should remain. Is it really worth keeping just for the "realistic feel" when it ruins player's experience in the game over and over? I'd say no, all it does is enable toxic players to ruin others gameplay experience. I honestly think disabling it would be a nice change of pace for R6, and a win for the "feel" of the game overall.
P.S. - If it's gotten to the point where they break "realism" in making it so that shooting allies damages you (and obviously they've done this to discourage tk'ing), then they may as well remove it altogether if you ask me. Oh and if you are really unfortunate, then you've probably solo q'd into a game with 4 toxic teammates. That take their time killing you back-to-back. So you really are pretty much unable to play, the whole match.
P.P.S - There are ways this distorts and changes gameplay. Like how teammates can burn from Tachanka's gadget. Let's say tachanka fires an incendiary grenade to force an attacker out of a spot. With disabled team-killing (and damage), an ally could run through that aoe and chase the fleeing target while they may not expect it. Currently having aoe thrown into a choke point means that it's cut-off for both enemies and teammates alike (lest they wish to take damage while moving through it), so I can see why this suggested change could distort things a lot, and really change up gameplay.
MAYBE. Shooting teammates, or damaging them to the point of losing all their health will cause them to go into the downed state. At that point, allies cannot kill them, but they will bleed out if not helped up. That way, they still have to worry about taking damage whilst moving through something like Tachanka's gadget. I'm well aware this can still be used and abused, but I can't think of anything else at the moment.
Regardless, team-killing still needs to go in my personal, thought-out opinion. Maybe I'm a fool to think that this will get any meaningful consideration, but I'm sick and tired of the toxicity in this game. This seems like a surefire way to reduce some ways toxic player can massively screw up your experience in R6.
