Hey there,
i installed R6 after a longer pause (1.5 years) and came back to severe freezing issues. Online it says it may be a sound issue and messing with certain files may/ may not solve it to an extend.
However i want to share an observation on when they start to occour:
Sometimes i could play to upwards of 3 hours with no issues, sometimes it happens on the very second map played at an average of 30minutes of playing.
-> It happens after trying bot hunt for a warmup, the very first online session starts with freezes (5 seconds ca.)
-> Leaving a running game. There are numerous (non toxic) reasons to cancel a running game early. I personaly hate the noise and duration of the final killcam and endscreen (almost half a minute) eventhough cancelling does nothing and the noise finishes it's full duration while already in the menu.
However leaving a running game seems to start the freezes.
They last 10-20 seconds and can happen back to back. It's displayed as stutter and ping issues however voice chat and- to an extend game sound continue as normal.
The most extreme freezes happen at remarkibly compareable times:
(Or when breaking a soft wall. It freezes the very first frame of the wall breaking apart- Naturally, firefights which break the surrounding love to have me get frozen)
All those things are sound trigger- but those issues also only start when abbandoning matches.
Be it watching a 1v5 after being put on the losing team in casual or simply skipping the lengthy end screen with the obnoxtious sounds.
Every action that started a frozen screen so far could be traced back to a sound - but it also gets ALOT worse for teh session when cancelling matches or going from pve to pvp.
Restarting the game does a little but not when already on 10+ sec freezes.
Restarting the pc resets the issue.
I have a theory that it's the sound's pathing system/ surround sound.
(I just played another turn based rp game which allwys straight up froze while a special npc calculated it's pathfinding)
Maybe this helps tracing down the bug.
//edit: Two things the game LOVES to do aswell:
Reset settings. Things like display game metrics likes to be randomly swiched on. This reset also comes hand in hand with softer freezes (5sec). The game, dispite being in advanced deployment (hold while performing an action) also acts as default where you press it once and it continues. I even had weapon and operator skins or loadouts randomly reset. Something with the cloud save i assume.
Disable the keyboard for menu options. Esc in menus or spacebar to cancel the killcam, menu keybinds somehow randomly get disabled. The game then completely ignores the input and something like the character/ spawn selection needs to be clicked.
I'd like to just add another random example.
Because it's so much fun, here are other observations.
I feel like if those are indeed true, they may help alot pinpointing the issue.
Disclaimer: I am no pc person but managed to fix pc issues by myself in the past.
-> I have an i5 6500 @3.2, Rx 480 XFX black edition, 16Gb ram, win 10 (cpu bottleneck i know), 1080p
My dxdiag: https://file.io/yCojFRCq9bzh
I used this pc to play alot of siege in the past and do alot of photo and video editing which worked all well enough to not excuse a new pc.
Coming back to siege this August had me see my pc struggle for the first time with all the freezing.
Here is a weird thing:
When i launched Siege through Steam, the game naturally takes an eternity to load. Alot of time is spent on that little image with the Bosak sisters, initiating all the sub programs like Ubisoft connect, anticheat and whatelse.
-> When i opened a simple .jpg image while Siege is in this very loading process, i had a very high chance in the last 3 months for everything going to [censored]. The pc then in general stopping to respond (no task manager, nothing) and even restarts being stuck on the shutdown screen for minutes on end.
Here is another thing that happened just yesterday:
Before, i used the OBS recording software with zero issues or pc related shortcomings
I also used it to record a clip of a hacker in match replay.
Yesterday i did the same for some hipfire complaint post and the whole pc completely crashed. My Radeon driver just stopped working.
The difference: I had this very forum website open in the background.
Before that was another weird thing happening. On windows 10, when hitting the ''My pc'' with a rightclick -> properties, it shows your Cpu, RAM, windows version etc.
For the very first time ever, and while having the Siege forums open in firefox, this page would not load properly: It would fail to detect it's own devices.
I missed to screenshot it but the Processor, installed RAM, System Type etc would simply display some ''cannot detect'' placeholder line.
The computer's internal self scan to display who and what it is buged out while having Ubisoft related web applications open.
I encountered it because someone in this thread mentioned that it may be caused by ''older hardware''- and immediately, i couldn't even quick check my exact processor type like this
Another situation:
While having this forum website open in the background, for the first time ever in 6+ years, the picture editing program paint.net (some free photoshop tool) almost crashed and took an eternity to process when loading in new images to the project. (Opening the image path and draging it into the program to create a new layer). Draging the image nearly FROZE my screen for ca. 5 seconds.
Those images were't high resolution or special in any case.
I slapped together those low resolution images for reference:
https://discussions.ubisoft.com/topic/179611/just-more-operator-concepts?lang=en-US
Another Situation:
After returning to Siege and palying for a bit, already encountering freezing issues, someone gifted me Discord Nitro (the chat application).
Since then, playing R6 Siege while Discord is open or has been opened/ closed even once during the current pc runtime has Siege with far bigger freezing chances. Nitro since ran out but while it was active, having Discord + Nitro open in the background would 100% have Siege encounter heavy freezes.
Discord Nitro loads in ALOT of flat and animated emoji. I thought it's a Ram issue but now it simply ties in to image processing vs Ubisoft web connection.
There appears to be some extremely weird interaction between having any form of web based Ubisoft- product running, having an older Cpu and image processing going completely haywire.
None of those issues occoured today or in the past with a range of random websites (but not the Siege forum or the Siege game) running in the background while doing picture editing.
Having the Siege forum open while using the Siege match replay to capture the mentioned hipfire complaint example had Siege crash alltogether, causing a ~30sec blackscreen and Radeon reporting a ''reset after an driver issue''. The crash happened the very moment i clicked '#record'' on OBS, rfeady to tab into Siege.
May be a conincidence but the pc didn't run for a long time and didn't have anything else open and never had issues with any of the programs or tasks before the newer Siege versions/ newer Siege forums came into play.
(It may just be Ubisoft connect to b e honest)
Tldr: There seems to be a very weird connection between Ubisoft related web hosting, older cpus and image processing (Causing freezes).
I have NEVER had Siege's match replay crash but theone time time i had the forums (with a post-in-the-making) open (Firefox) and have never had Paint.net freeze on me in 6+ years of using it until the time i had the Siege forums open in the background.
I know this sounds super weird but i guess anything helps at this point
It ties in with my amatuer suggestion that not properly quitting a match (leaving or disconnecting) causing artifact leftover connections to previous matches/ players which overload old cpus to a point of Freezing.
Again: Freezing in R6: Siege has the Task Manager show the cpu drop to 0% load for the duration for me.
Happy bug hunting
//i almost forgot @updog_monkey Because you mentioned ''succesful workarounds''
I was palying yesterday for maybe 2-3 hours. I was lucky enough to not encounter trolls or cheater but also did not encounter ANY FREEZES.
The main difference: I let every map fully run out (no early leaves, no abandons) and took my time to ''re queue'', did not open Ubisoft connect ingame or Discord on the desktop.
Though on a 1080p monitor, i was running a lower resolution for the last 2 weeks which generally increased ''the amount of matches possible before the first freezes''.
One thing i encountered: I ended my play session testing someone's weapon attachments in T hunt. Somehow i managed to opt out of a failed attempt and fully load in on a fresh runThunt@Clubhouse run before the ''you failed'' soundscape of the previous match even properly started. So the operator select timer ran out and the operator spawned onto the map while the ''You died/lost on Clubhouse'' soundtrack was playing. (Which i think is just then end part of the ''Charlet soundtrack''
Hey there,
i ws thinking: how difficult is it to implement a change which makes weapons unable to land a headshot when not ads- ed.
Reason: Random shield spam, random wall spam, people who got surprised but get a lucky hipfire spray with the first bullet.
This would take away alot of frustration fo sure.
Tldr: Random hipfire shots excludes heads by default/ takes head hitboxes as upper body until 100% aiming down sights.
//Edit: Just now i had some random Ela being caught completely off guard while reloading. She simply skips the reload and starts spraying. The very second bullet is a hipfire headshot, giving the player the cleanest kill of his life while being visibly surprised.
Hipfire luck and peeker's advantage turn this dead Ela into a fraging- god.

I'd like to quote a post of mine long ago which i can't find anymore.
My previous ideas somehow found a way into the game in one way or another.
Though i'm personally not too fond of all the nanotech/ tech-magic creep happening in Siege so i decided to bring my old concepts up again (Done when Jäger Bandit just lost their Acogs and Tachanka was still a turret so an eternity ago) but which i think are STILL relevant today and i'd like to get hands on. As mentioned, all of the concepts now exist in Siege in one way or another, unfortunately most are kind of nanotech/ gimmicy. I spare you lore and fluff and keep it with the signature values:
Carries 2x Pressurized Steel frames. Place it in windows only to have it clamp itself vertically into the window frame.
The animation would carefully hold a compact package in the middle of the window like a Mira/ Osa panel but it would violently and loudly extend it's pistons through spring or hydraulic pressure.
After the pistons extend in a split second, they get locked in place to clamp itself to the top and bottom of a window, locking it in the middle of a window with 2 long vertical gaps on both sides.
It may be a loud and extreme animation where one may even lose their fingers when holding the device wrong Just so that it communicates that this is a permanent barrier.
He/ she has 2 in stock and requires 1 per normal and 2 for a large window.
Both placed on Consulate CEO windows would block sneaky rappels but not window players from holding the angle. Placed on the cash window and cash-garage window would still leave them dangerous angles for attackers but bloyk easy garage rotations. Unlike Castle, it is for windos- only.
Unable to be placed on anything but vault/ rappel- able windows, it's far more fair than Airuni lazers or Osa shields. (An attacker on 40% hp with no throwables and the complete site locked with Airunis simply makes clutches impossible no matter how much time is left. This device can deny easy window smoke plants but also deny defender movements.
Weapons: Two pump action shotties: The super nova with it's option for a supporessor and the SG CQB with it's vertical grip. Both are SLUG (single projectile) variants and have some magnification options. Damage would be some 100 with a quick dropoff to 60 at 12 meter and then stay in that range, very dangerous for light armor.
SPECIAL: He may run a Gonne 6 on defense.
Places a larger device similar to the old Tachanka turret or a larger Evil eye (Or a ball on a tripod- whatever works). A Trophy system (Like a 360° projector) which detects active enemy electronics and marks their position/ direction via a lazer grid (Can be similar to the X Kairos targeting laser) Main use: Spot hidden drones on site with larger radius, breaching charges or Claymores. No nanotech, no live pings but ingame projected textures.
Funny enough the new defender just got a gadged device- and though it has active gameplay linked to it, the value is 100% lost when that operator dies. It is already memed about as ''worse pulse''.
I think just having a gadged on site to help your anchors against vertical play, hidden drones or sneaky breaches and allow the providing operator to ''just play the game'' after prep phase is what made Jäger so insanely valuable and popular.
Weapons: May runs the K1A from Vigil or SASG-12
Has a makeshift RC car which is useable in preperation phase. (this is inspired more by the old game ''Re Volt'' than black ops tbh)
(Unfortunate prep phase changes for attackers in the meantime) -> Can have an activation key in the preperation phase to ''launch rcXD'' and lock the attacker choice.
Mainly blows up downwards to destroy hatches in the preperation phase or is saved up for later utility clear, distraction, extreme scouting or soft breach.
Weapons: 416-C with an Acog option and a 30 round mag (attacker) (Or 416 as slightly better version of the 416-C)
Alternatively: AR 15.50 (Maverick Dmr)
Example situations: Destroy Consulate(or other map) hatches during prep phase and force a quick re- thinking of old meta setups. Blow up up utility of people who didn't respect the noisey car and placed their stuff carelessly: Rook armor, stacked Thunderbirds or secondary devices like Evil eyes in the prep phase already.
Could be from the Brazilian ACOEA
Loadout supports to entry frag though the wide range of optic choices invite for more cunning plays- like Nomad. Should easily become a soloqueue favorite without being overpowered.
Zero already got Bandit's gun and Flores now has the blow up remote car.
Though i feel like 416-C and a quick, loud and aggressive Rc car with no second chances would still be more fun (than 4 flores drones) Damage to operators would be very little and closer to an impact grenade around/ below it.
Think of the Elite skin option for the mini car.
Can add more detail and pictures if i find them. Let me know.
@updog_monkey Did 2 maps, during the second match i got random mega latency in the 3rd round or so, slowly creeping up to 9k ms then disconnecting.
The very next map had me with mega freezes.
(As i stated before, not properly quitting running games 100% causes freezes in the following games for me)
The freezes were from the extreme kind, 10-20 seconds back to back.
As a reference, the killcam literaly shows the enemy way before- or way after encountering me, trying to keep a certain length. The killcam interaction simply skips all seconds that i was frozen. This even allows me to see far earlyer/ later actions of someone who happened to kill me while i was frozen.
When i froze while the round ending kill happened, that killcam simply fails to load and skips.

dxdiag^
Did a re install before but that didn't change a thing.
New Driver 22.11.1 worked fine and then randomly had one map go haywire. Guess i didn't quit the previous one properly :^)
@Lie-nus
Got an update. Played some casual for now almost 3 hours.
Got matched into an unplayable game, bailed out and voila the very next map had me frozen for 50% of the time. Not only that but it seemed like my pc was over busy.
As if Siege tried to stay in touch with- and load stuff from the other game still going on.
Almost 3h no issues- not even micro stutters etc. Leave one game that threw me into a ongoning casual game nobody would have managed to watch.
Next map i get 5-10 sec freezes every 5-10 secs+ my pc almost goes down trying to alt tab out to open the browser.
I missed to mention: During the freeze intervalls, Task Manager shows cpu drop to 0%
Driver version is 22.10.3
I disabled auto updates and had the same issues with the previous and that version. New one from the 15th is 22.11.1 will see if it does a thing.
// - _ does not swich the Performance metrics for me. I had it on advanced while figuring some things. Then put it on basic- it kept swiching back to advanced randomly. then disabled it- it now swiches to advanced or basic at random. At random means at least once per palying session.

It talks about deleting a ''sounddata'' folder. This folder does not exist and a google search on it brings up quite alot of people confused after being told to delete the sounddata folder (apparently suggested by devs at one point) and let the game re install the files as a makeshift ''repair files'' manouver.
As said, that folder simply doesn't exist for me.
Several youtube videos with comments about how it may or may not have solved the issues are around which show the sounddata-fix..
Another hot take: I never ever had Discord Nitro. Until someone gifted me one month and during that time. Having Discord open (or even have opened it once before) 100% casued freezing issues. Open (+even fully close Discord) = R6 freezes until a restart. Maybe biased but i picture it as Discord loading all those millions of emojis and giving siege a hard time gettting it's files into the ram.
Discord Nitro since ran out but it still tries to load all the emojis and quite honestly the issue started for me around the time that Nitro activated for the first time and we wanted to play together.
I was playing for a week (busy finding settings for smoothe fps but no severe freezes). Then wanted to play with someone who gave me a gifted Discord nitro and around that time, the issue occoured permanently.
Tinfoil hat approach i know but the fact that it's a permanent for some and nonexistent for others may aswell be a 3rd app.
i5 6500. Rx480, 16Gb ram
This pc played Y1-Y4 without any issues before.
Currently on O2 Unlimited max mobile internet via USB thethering. (One could argue it's an unstable connection but the ingame voicechat literaly continues while my game has a moment @ red connection markers.
The freezes were alot more common with Dicord Nitro open and before i swiched to Vulcan.
Now, i got micro stutters (1 second freezes while in a 1v1 gunfight are fun - as said i assume it comes from bullets breaking the surrounding) and freezes which are either 5sec every minute, 10sec every 30 sec or 10-20 sec back to back.
I once managed to clutch a round by actively waiting for my freeze and go afterwards lol. That was one of the 10sec/ 30 sec ones. Those freezes are the most common and also occour by just playing for a longer while.
1sec or 5-6sec: Moderate onens from random actions on the map, mainly shooting, turning or breaking surfaces.
10 sec every ~30sec= Playing for a long time (30min-4h) it occours in a way that i first suspected overheating
10-20 sec. Those are unplayable and happen with background windows updates or after cancelling a couple maps.
-> I just played a round and reinforcing a hatch gave me a 3 sec freeze the moment the soft hatch beneach borke by it and another 5 sec freeze one frame later. (As if breaking the soft hatch beneath by reinforcing and then finally finishing to place the metal plate caused an overload) <- Again, smells like sound pathing.
-> Dawn of War: Retribution was notorious for crashing due to a sound- reverb ingame during an sp campaign. A gun used with a rapid fire ability whould straight up crash the game.
-> I noticed that House & Plane never had the extreme sort of freezes (even no freezes at all so far thinking about it)
Maybe any of this helps troubleshooting in the right direction.
// Thanks for the quick response. In no way i would hit - _ by accident but goot to know.
The deployment also continues when you have a micro lag. oddly enough, Even during a 20 sec freeze: Let's say i was aming down sights. I watch my screen freeze for 15 sec while ads-ed and end the freeze still ads-ed. If i hold right mouse button it doesn't untoggle. Things like final round killcams simply skip the frames when i was freezing during that action.
I remember getting the ''menu key disable'' at least two times on my first game. How can this be such an old bug and still around?
//edit 2 I remember palying last time shortly before Extraction. I took the long break right as the Extraction Consulate event rolled around. Before that time, issues like those with that pc (all of them) did not exist.
