@alake314 im with you. I payed 130 dollars for it. Feels like I got ripped off.
This game needs major changes, updates, & more before the end of year.
Game is unfinished. Its a joke. I cant believe they even let this out the door.
I dont know if any one else agrees but:
Ubi needs to do some major updates to Valhalla asap. This game is a disappointment, they need to reimplement some of the map mechanics of Odyssey on this game as well as tagging targets, tagging near by loot instead of using that compass bar thing at the top of screen which is useless.
Fix button configuration on playstation so buttons don't conflict because they changed the entire fighting & control mechanics of Valhalla from all the other AC games that have been released.
As well as story isnt bad but graphics look like you went back 2 to 3 generations. Odyssey looked better than this.
You leveling system was fun. The legendary armour was nice. The ability to sell armour for money & break it down for supplies was awesome in Odyssey.
The rations make sense in a fight but let him heal over time when not fighting like a normal person.
Oh & where it says upgrading armour lowers health, in what world does that make any sense? It doesn't. Its [censored]. These games you gain more health & armour to implement & protect it or increase it because of the armour.
Ubisoft, I dont know what you were think or who you listened to but you took all the best aspects of the upgrades you gave Assassins Creed Odyssey & destroyed them.
Im glad you brought back the hidden blade & the brotherhood. The storyline works but the mechanics are horrible.
Im almost 80 hrs in & story is ok. Eivor is cool & I have a Norse background myself along with Scottish, Irish, & Native American. And to boot I'm also a Christian so most of these post are interesting plus first time I'm really on a forum is for this game.
I've been gaming since the Atari when I was 5. Played every AC game. Ezio series was good, Unity wad ok, Syndicate was fun (but everyone hated industrial revolution I heard), Origins was eh in my opinion (finished story but that was it), Odyssey was amazing/gripping/fun & the DLC's were detailed explained so much.
Only thing Origins & Odyssey did was bring back a Modern a protagonist to make the game more engaging like it was with Desmond.
Now Valhalla overall storyline is pretty good. I'm enjoying building the settlement but resources being so scarce is [censored] me off. Plus not being able to sell or breakdown armour I dont want is useless. I'm carrying around junk I dont need.
Valhalla's map is tiny compared to Odyssey in truth plus the map is crap because when you tag stuff & go back in game then you cant find it. That compass at top of screen is worthless.
Raven/eagle is worthless now (cant tag enemies, cant tag locations & if you do when you get close it vanishes & you cant find it).
Location tagging is worthless especially if searching for something.
Button configuration was changed completely which screws up game play & they put it in so you can change it but on console playstation for example there isn't enough buttons for all the actions they put in so everything conflicts.
The auto lock on enemies doesn't work even if you put it on full because I was testing it out.
There are items in plain sight you need to interact with that you cant & missions you cant finish because you cant interact with them.
Then who in their right mind adds a stamina bar for dodging & swinging weapons?
Better yet, it says under armour (upgrading armour lowers health) in what world? Last I checked when you wear armour it increases your endurance/stamina/strength, protected your health & made you stronger.
I have never said this & the story isnt bad. But overall this for paying $130 for the Ultimate Edition. This is the Worst AC Game I've played so far with all the glitches bugs & crap so far.
I bought Collectors Edition of Odyssey & loved it.
Everyone can bash me for my opinion.
I am not an all out kill them all person. I prefer stealth & the assassin game play with some all out fights mixed in.
London was fun. But I think they should do a more steady mix of the classic AC with Odyssey games mechanics.
This is my honest opinion of Things as a Veteran gamer..
Im not sure who in this thread will agree with me. But after being a gamer for years & mostly a RPG gamer. I've played Final Fantasy games, Legend of Dragoon, Chrono Cross, & others.
Which some may not even know 2 of those games but in my opinion my 2 favorite games are:
Witcher 3 Wild Hunt & AC Odyssey because:
1. Looting system made sense & gave you unique loot & useful loot.
2. You could break down or sell armour & weapons you didn't want or need.
3. You had legendary armour & weapons you could upgrade
4. Map & tagging system on map was on point.
5. Witcher vision/eagle vision was amazing
6. Battle/gameplay mechanics were amazing.
7. There was plenty to do & any quest you accepted was automatically tracked on your map.
8. In Witcher & Odyssey you could choose where to go but it was based on leveling system. (Which Odyssey had scaling leveling system as you leveled up so did the world around you).
9. In AC Odyssey the Eagle was alot more useful in tagging enemies/the bells to call enemies or babies & for find latter's or targets.
10. Both in Witcher & Odyssey parrying was on point it was the crap they put in Valhalla. (Parrying barely exist in Valhalla).
11. Button configuration for playstation gameplay mechanics between AC Origins, Black flag, Odyssey, & Witcher 3 Wild Hunt were basically similar which they drastically changed in Valhalla which makes no sense.
Example:
square & Triangle have always been attack buttons & circle is dodge.
L2: Aim / R2: Shoot - Cross bow or bow & arrow
L1: special Archery Abilities
R1: special melee Abilities
Touch pad: map/menu
Directional pad:
Up: eagle vision/Witcher vision
Down: whistle/call horse
12. In both Odyssey & Witcher if you upgraded your armour & met the requirements for the fight or went above requirements it made the fight easier but not in Valhalla.
(In Valhalla you can be a Level 220 & get beaten by a level 90 Knight who takes a 1/4 of your health in one hit). That is horrible game design.
I've literally quit playing this game right now. I literally switched to Spiderman Miles Morales which Surprise no glitches, no bugs, no problems & it came out 2 days after this release date & even the graphics seem better in my opinion.
Im actually relaxing & enjoying this game instead of staying irritated.
Valhalla is a joke. Unless Ubisoft makes some major changes to this & adds alot of content to make this game worth what I paid; I will not be investing in anymore Ubisoft games or reserving anymore of their games.
I paid $130 for this game for Ultimate Edition to include Season Pass & Game. So far this crap wasn't worth $10. Its incomplete/buggy/glitchy/& gameplay is horrible.
@torfinr
Thats what I was saying. You just said it better than I did. I've got other multiple post in this thread & others listing multiple problems.
This game has potential & I hope they can salvage this cause it has great potential but I am skeptical. Odyssey was amazing & was done right. They need to reimplement alot of things done in Odyssey.
@mr-dastone im with you. Im plugging to finish story but game overall suck, gameplay is horrible & so much is getting left undone for bugs along with crappy design.
I am definitely not pre-ordering the next AC game or paying for the Ultimate or Collectors Edition. My money is too precious for trash like this.
Ubisoft, Im fed up. Im over 80 hours in & over level 220. Yet fight Zealot knights or any strong character where you should outrank rank them significantly but you still barely hurt them is utter nonsense.
I play nothing but RPGs because first person games give me migraines & 2nd games Im a Marine Vet with no desire to relive my time in military through call of duty games.
I've made multiple post over the last week & a half about my concerns & frustrations. Im been plugging away anyway because story was decent but I've finally had enough.
Every area I've went to I outrank significantly for quite sometime. Example: I just finished Cent which was recommended Power level of 130 & I was power level of over 220.
Which means guards shouldn't be a problem but because of bugs/glitches parrying is non-existent or it half way works if it does work.
I know you have the ability to search my username to find all my post. Ive never used a forum until this game but I am beyond livid how much you destroyed this game. I wasted a $130. So I'm not happy.
The leveling system is trash, button configuration is trash, parrying doesn't work, bird is useless, tagging on map is useless, compass on map is dumb. Everything about the gameplay is trash. I enjoyed old AC games. But why not blend the abilities of the old AC games with the mechanics of Odyssey. The Odyssey gameplay mechanics were amazing.
I dont know who designed this game for you Ubisoft but for being in Development for 2 years, yall got lazy & covid is no excuse.
I am not reserving the next AC game if I buy it at all. You ruined this franchise for me in this game.
Im speaking my mind because I've been a gamer for over 35 yrs since I was 4 with an Atari in 1985. I've had Nintendo, Sega Genesis, PS2, PS3, & PS4. I played the others just never owned them.
I am a seasoned gamer & this is my opinion. Im not asking anyone to agree with me.
I loved Odyssey. Gameplay & everything about it. I liked the armour & weapon drops because I could break them down for materials for my armour & weapon upgrades or my ship upgrades. (Which would be great for upgrading the settlement in Valhalla).
Fighting & combat was better in Odyssey because of the Spear, he was basically dual wielding in the game anyway so dual wielding in this game fits.
Special skills were better in Odyssey except I only skill I've used at all in Valhalla is throwing axes & assassination.
I wish we could bring back map tracking & using bird tracking enemies, tracking enemy camps so I could plan strategy, & more.
Also seems like they overpowered bosses but under powered main character.
Being level 230 & losing to a zealot knight with power level of 90.
Or Fight a mad witch in an area level 20 & I come back at level 250 which I still lose to her & I barely hurt her. Bosses are way overpowered.
At least in Odyssey I felt I was getting stronger & combat was fun.
I loved Odyssey. What every is leaving out is if you killed civilians you got a bounty put on your head & you were a criminal until you dealt with it like in the real world.
Second, what is historically accurate about the Isu? Everyone seems to have forgotten this is a game about being that came before that people thought were God's that died out which is where the DLC's for Odyssey got their simulations from for the staff which were pretty awesome in my opinion.
I do agree there should be more freedom in the game cause civilians continue to get in the way during raids (collateral damage) shouldn't be de-synced for that.
Also Eivor should heal like a normal person when not in combat over time.
There are historical accuracies but remember the story is based around a fantasy (Isu/Gods) so you cant complain.
Odyssey raised the bar. I think there should be a bounty hunter part in this game as well. Because with every action there is a consequence.
Truthfully, with the way they screwed Valhalla up, I'm afraid to invest any money into the series at this point.
I've read every post in this thread and I've been gaming for over 30 years. I've played every AC game. So far Ezio series & Odyssey was the best. Black Flag was decent. But Odyssey was one of the best. I could continue to play that game still just like I do Witcher 3.
Valhalla is a train wreck of a game. Im sure some gamers like it.
However, for playstation game constantly:
crashes, freezes, aim assist wont work, parrying half the time works, bosses over powered (when a knight is level 90 & character is level 250 & you still lose there is a problem), skill tree is a joke, sound is buggy as crap, they screwed up button configuration on playstation, picture is dull & dark, looting system is crap, cant get rid of stuff I dont want or need, and what you do find is a joke. Even the ability skills suck compared to Odyssey.
This game is pathetic. It was not worth $130. I wont be buying pre-ordering the next one if I buy it at all.
I find it interesting people defending the game & if they like it great.
But telling Veteran gamers what to like is stupid. Ive been gaming for 30 plus years & never been on a forum until this game thats how bad this game is.
People can say what they want but I dont special in one combat style. I use a variety of Assassin abilities,Archery, & melee abilities so im ready for anything.
This game sucks. Archery lock auto or assisted sucks to high heaven.
Combat stinks, parry half the time works, & dont get me started on that stamina bar & trying to dodge.
Witcher 3 & Dragon Age Inquisition was Designed better than this disaster.
This game is trash compared to Odyssey. They can't even get the dialogue right in Valhalla. I chose to play as a man & they keep referring to my character as she & her. When not saying the characters name.
What kind of crap is that?
If I was to truly sit here & type out every bug,glitch, & problem with this game & list it. It would be at least 2 to 3 pages long.
Its like Ubisoft to programmers off the street that never gamed before & said here do this. And just passed it off as finished product.
This is disgraceful.
@valtyrnine
I'll give it a try. Just with all the crap the game is doing it gets frustrating. I play nothing but RPGs like Witcher, just finished Spiderman Miles Morales, & I used to play final fantasy. As well as dragon age.
So I know a bit about mechanics, armour, weapons, gear weight, & etc. just this game is far from anything I've seen before with playstyle in combat & leveling.
Cause if I loved Odyssey but if you ask me the best RPG I've ever played was Witcher 3 Wild Hunt.
Odyssey reminded me alot of that in someways.
@rgx
Man, I hate to say this but combat is this game is horrible. Parrying doesn't work half time if it does work & dodging only works if you dont run out of stamina which is a pain cause you're watching for attacks not that stupid bar.
Honestly, I think regular enemies are fairly easy but certain fights are over powered.
I tried to fight a zealot knight that was level 90 & I was level 230 & still lost. I barely did any damage & I had on normal difficulty but everytime they hit me it took 1/4 of my health & thats with upgraded weapons and armour. I had same problem with a mad witch side quest in an area that was level 20 & I went back to fight her at level 250 & still could beat her.
The combat in this game is way off & the bosses are way overpowered for the power levels.
I've been gaming for over 30 yrs & I've never seen bs like this before.
@valtyrnine
I respect your opinion but I think Valhalla is horrible & combat is crap. Its the worse game I've ever played & I've been gaming for over 30 yrs since the Atari.
Parrying in the game is a joke. Trying to dodge is horrible cause of the stamina bar. Not to mention all the bugs & glitches.
I tried to fight a level 90 zealot knight at level 230 & barely got him down to 50% health, had to run away cause I was about to die. At my level that should have been a easier fight. Not saying I dont mind a challenge but when I level up & still struggling to do damage we got problems.
Same goes for mad witches.
I could make a list that could go on for 2 or more pages of everything wrong with this game.
They did do a few things better. But overall its a train wreck, it wasn't worth the 130 bucks I paid for it. If you look at 90% of the threads on here you'll see im not the only one that says this.
Im glad you like it, to each their own. I prefer Odyssey. It was more fun.
@mataresian
See now thats just ridiculous so you max out your level & they are significantly beneath you in power but somehow still as strong as you. That isnt logical either im stronger than you or im not.
If I out rank you & im stronger then when we fight it should be obvious. Especially in boss fights.
@souldrinkerlp
I dont back to villages unless I need to. But I fight alot so its easier. I barely hunt so now I got to waste my time hunting to get resources.
That should be optional.
@valtyrnine parrying in Valhalla in horrible. Combat is horrible in Valhalla.
@torfinr
I agree. I could go back to Odyssey right now & still do so much. Because its so much there if you look unless you find everything & do every side mission you wont get 100% sync plus even then I couldn't finish level my character so I had to restart with game plus which I havent finished and I was at level 85. And I never maxed out all the mastery skills or the actual skills which is my next goal but I stopped for Valhalla.
I think valhalla is gonna flop. Its not long enough, big enough map, & gameplay is horrible.
Origins & Odyssey is what the game should be. Great graphics, captivating story with interactive environment with side missions because back in that time it took months if not years to do things we are doing in hours on the game so they need other missions & to help people along the way to gather information, resources, craft weapons, break down weapons & armour in the field, craft arrows, adapt enemy resources, and more like we did in Odyssey.
Everyone crying about historical accuracy; its a game. Nothing about the story line is historically accurate except they might introduce a character they confirmed lived back then like they have done with Leonardo DaVinci, Leonidas, Socrates, Alexander Bell, & others.
Its a game. Let's enjoy it because the Animus, Isu, & everything is fiction so just roll with the story. Because Valhalla story line isn't bad just Ubisoft shouldn't have removed 98% of the mechanics Odyssey used.
