When people asked for a new game+, they just wanted to relive the story without getting distracted by the grind. You could just put runes, silver, item upgrade materials in chests instead of armor and weapons in NG+. And this was promised as the end of Eivor's story. Nobody likes false promises.
I'm disappointed with Valhalla's support in general. I know a lot of AC fans don't like Odyssey, but its support was much better. New quests and bosses appeared in the game every two weeks, the mercenary system, the constant battles between Athens and Sparta, contracts contributed to maintaining interest in the game. Not to mention the scope for different builds thanks to the interesting stats of the items that worked.
In Valhalla, we got river raids, festivals, mastery challenges, and the Forgotten Saga. Most of it was abandoned by the players very quickly, because there was no point in revisiting these things. And bugs, lots of bugs. Many topics on the official support forum are now marked as resolved and closed with the wording: "Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do about this problem." This is unprofessional.
To be honest, I hope Project Red will take more from Odyssey than from Valhalla. But the fact that Montreal is working on the Hexe project does not give me much hope for that game.
@freestepper After completing all challenges, I have 2 main problems with them.
1. Bugs:
- Enemies not spawning (especially bad in Wolf challenges, where you have to kill all of them in a specific way)
- Random explosions (Templebrough Wolf is particularly bad, more often then not map starts with some jars eploding and killing enemies, thus you have to restart if you want gold)
- Game doesn't correctly register the way you kill enemies (headshots and indirect kills). In Wenlocan and Callevah Wolf challenge the best way to kill them is fire arrows or dropping them from ledges. Everything else is not reliable. In Odin Cave Raven challenge, where you have to assassinate everyone from air, apparentely if you jump on the enemy, lying on the ground after sleeping arrow, it doesn't count as air kill. You have to wait untill the guy wakes up and is standing. You also cannot jump on crouching enemy for some reason.
- AI irratic behavior (suicide, death by enemy archers, death by enemies archers expoding things etc). In Raven challenges sometimes enemies grow eyes on their backs.
You don't need much skill to complete these challenges, but sheer luck and pray that all enemies spawn and you will not run in bugs.
2. It just not interesting and fun. I had no problems with trying different gear and abilities, but the constant need to keep track of all conditions was really frustrating. You don't kill enemies the most efficient way, you fill the ticks. This sucks fun even during Bear challenges, which were my favorite.
So basically, the idea was interesting, but the implementation is just bad. Maybe they should have play better with different modifiers.
Before getting into these, I thought Raven challenges would be the most frustrating, because how stealth is broken in the game. But Wolf challenges were the worst and they need fixes badly.
All of this could be avoided, if they made the quest condition to just participate in River Raid like in Community challenge, but noooo. Foreign supplies were canceled month ago. It's just not many people were engaged in highly repeatable River Raids. Now that you have a quest to complete, a lot of players noticed this problem. And it backfired.
And we cannot get Egghead Bow. And horse/boat/swim sprint doesn't work on PC if you activate Heidrun Slam.
At this point, is anyone surprised?
Paris, here we come.
Turned out, it was Avast antivirus. You need to add Valhalla.exe to exceptions, then the game launches. It seems, this problem is mostly for people in Eastern Europe. Weird.
@TheNorfolkian Somebody at Ubisoft Support: "Finally a worthy opponent, our battle will be legendary!"
How much time is needed to fix this problem? Every time I launch this game I meet a message saying how awesome and incredible is Ubisoft. Time to prove it.
@TheNorfolkian Since Hexe means "witch" in German, I would assume that's where this game will take place. Germany was famous for witch hunt in 1484-1648. Even "Hammer of Witches" was written by german inquisitors. Tbh, I'm more exited about Hexe than Red. Still don't understand how Infinity is supposed to work.
@torfinr Reda still has the same contracts, and max amount of opals per week is 120 (if community challenge is completed, which is not always the case). This means you can only buy one item per week. Mounts and birds are ridiculously expensive, I think.
@ubi-borealis Thank you for clearing things out. I hope in any future possible River Raids in Ireland or France we'll be able to loot things without any problems.
May I also be so bold and kindly ask you to take to development team the suggestion to increase River Raids rewards from small runes to big ones? They are very scarce in the game and that would make the players more interested in RR.
I just saw patchnotes for 1.3.1 Update (tomorrow):
https://discussions.ubisoft.com/topic/107263/assassin-s-creed-valhalla-title-update-1-3-1?lang=en-US
@alphagoose46219 Inscription on Eyvor's grave in Vinland: She/He raided too much.
@TheNorfolkian Already counted that it will take 2 years from now to gather about 230 items I don't have, assuming I log in daily and all challenges are completed. And that's not counting ship, settlement and tattoos. This game is a nightmare for completionists.
I gathered everything from Odyssey in 2 years, buuuuuut... Odyssey has NG+ and I completed it 2 times with Cass and Alex. So...
@TheNorfolkian I got Hi-gatana from Samurai pack which was released in November (didn't buy anything from this set in the store). The game was thinking for several seconds, probably checking what I already have. So it's more like Sargon's lottery from Odyssey (minus epic items) and not like Hecka chest from Origins with repeats, which is great.
@TheNorfolkian I would assume that most of Ubi Montreal is already working on their next project, Hexe. And some unfortunate souls left to wrap up Valhalla were told to create Mirage connection. So we have Eivor jumping into the boat and Basim looking at it thoughtfuly and it's a mess.
Actually, the only reason for Basim to investigate Eivor is if Basim's personality is not completely erased by Loki and he is researching the way to restore it with the help of Eivor, I guess? Like he was interested in the third way Eivor found. I wonder if Basim will start talking to himself in Mirage, lol.
It also seems to me that Harald is also some kind of a sage (Baldur?) because he repeated the same gesture as Eivor and Sigurd before talking about "the past". Or maybe I'm seeing too much in this scene.
Eivor being dressed up like some kind of fancy tropical bird made me think all those drug-induced dream experiences were really warping the character’s mind.
Indeed. She started talking to herself, wearing crazy armor and finally ran away to another continent because people in Ravensthorpe had enough of her bulshit. Pretty sad story, actually. That has nothing to do with Basim.
@TheNorfolkian I had very low expectations for Last Chapter and still was dissappointed.
We already knew Eivor went to America from the very beginning of the game. Apparently the reason was to organize the very first Brazilian carnival with her new and shiny peacock armor. Very epic conclusion to Eivor's Saga. If I wanted to watch a movie, I would watch a movie.
Also there are several crazy Helix pack incoming. Yay!
And if this is a Mirage commercial, I would not include that stealth mission, it was pretty awful.
Ubisoft probably noticed decrease of interest in Valhalla. That's why they put it in Steam after milking it dry and getting a hefty bag of money from EGS. No NG+ and future updates also means less people will be willing to spend their money on mtx.
It makes me sctratch my head actually, cause I don't think Mirage will keep people interested until AC Japan. Also Scull-n-Bones don't look very promising and no news about Far Cry 7. So, what do they have next year?

@SpirantCrayon22 Same for me, assassinations don't register.
@pesto I thought enemy count was too high in Valhalla for stealth aproach, considering we don't have double assassination. And they never sleep, unlike previous games. So I just stick to the bow when I don't want open combat. And even then enemies can see you through the wall and with their back eyes. Whistle also is often ignored, especially by archers.
I'm playing DoR right now, and enemies are very spongy, and usually there a lot of them. And bosses are pretty fast when Eivor is pretty slow in comparison. Like while activating ability they are already on the other side of arena slow.
@TheNorfolkian Didn't know about Alphabet of the Magi, interesting. So Mephisto cult, maybe some Faust influence?
I'm not sure about Catholic Templars and Protestant Assassins, this would make this conflict very one-sided. In Odyssey we couldn't join Sparta or Athene (I tried so hard to conquer one side) maybe there will be something like that.
