Starting with the fact that this game has one of the worst combat systems I have ever seen in a game, where button mashing is the only thing that gets the job done, these mastery challenges are a useless addition to the game: they are infuriating not because they are hard, but because enemies keps throwing themselves down the cliffs, arrows one shot enemies that you are supposed to hit two times, enemies must have an X-ray device of some sort to spot you beyond walls and barricades.
Fix this damn game: it's been out 7 months and bugs from day one are still in here for the most part. Can't still find a goddamn fish, can't run the game stealthily even with lowest difficulty enabled (I just tried to see if it was me or the game and it's definitely the game), dialogues cut off mid-sentence, river raids are [censored] and doesn't add anything to the game but grinding s£$%t, mastery challenges haven't obviously been tested before releasing otherwise you would have seen that the archery challenge in the Odin Mine is totally RNG-based: you have to hope enemies don't commit suicide or a random jar explodes when you are not even arrived in the room it is...

I bought this even after the [censored] that was Odyssey, a game with no story and no content, and I borught this to myself but I never through it could get worse than that honestly...

  • Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section 1.10.32.

@abysswalker1992 Yeah, my initial thought of the mastery challenges did shift from "ok" to "infuriating".

I'm trying Odin's cave now, and so far:
I have shot almost point blank at a weak spot ... missing ...
Saw damage numbers deep down the cave and somebody dying
Shot, once again, point blank for a headshot whilst enemy down, and did not get the headshot.
Three archers vanishing after triggering shield bearer but falling back (found out when going back to the cave).
Have an enemy suicide at the start by shooting his own platform.
Shooting from below for a weakpoint hit but getting a body kill
    etc ...

    It is not "fun".

The fact that you have X amount of enemies to accomplish certain challenges, with 0% margin, makes this just frustrating.

@abysswalker1992 You had me until the Odyssey shade. I enjoyed it and felt it much more of a story than Valhalla. Plus I miss Kassandra.

I have to agree that the Odin Mine Wolf Challenge is broken.
I raised a ticket in frustration that whilst the challenge is the hardest, with patience and lots of practice it’s achievable. What is not acceptable is that if Ubi require perfection, then we should expect consistent AI enemies who act properly. Not backflip into a fire, not jump off a high platform, not dissapear from the game.
I cannot recall how many times after completing the first large cavern I am one headshot missing, knowing I headshotted everybody as I keep an eye on the tracker.
    Ubi this is NOT ACCEPTABLE!

I was able to enjoy these challenges:

initially too, I found it strange not being able to use my equipment,
but I must say that playing, I was happy with this "forcing" made me discover things that I have always wanted to ignore out of pure "laziness"

Although I will never change my gameplay on valhalla, I must admit that it is nice to change,
use only fists, use different weapons. Practice hitting only the weak spots with the bow
it introduced me to aspects of the game that I was previously unaware of (which is understandable, given the number of variables in the game!)

Personally, I get more fun from the challenge itself than from the expectation of the prize (as I have already described above, there are no other weapons or armor that might interest me! XD)

For my part, I would be happy if they included some boss fight challenge, or the possibility of re-facing the zealots

    Hello there,

I apologise for the delayed response. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with the Mastery Challenges, and to provide your feedback and suggestions based on the issues you have encountered. These reports have been passed along to the development team for further investigation.

We currently have an ongoing Megathread for issues encountered during the Trials of the Wolf. If you'd like to share your report specifically regarding these Trials, please don't hesitate to post within that thread.

If you are encountering problems when playing through Trials of the Bear or Trials of the Raven, please can you open up a new thread so we can investigate further? Creating a new thread allows us to investigate the issue separately without causing confusion in an ongoing topic. When opening a new thread, please include the name of the Trial you're having trouble with, as well as including any additional images or videos which demonstrate the issue you're encountering in-game. This will be helpful for further investigation.

    Thank you! 😊
