  • Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section 1.10.32.

Great fun with the game so far but can we please have an option like Odyssey to turn antialiasing completely off? On my pc it makes the image extremely blurry and sometimes hurts my eyes as I need to squint so much.

is it just me?i really dont like playing with AA on... i usually turn it off in all of my games, valhalla doesnt have that option, only set to low... i am not a fan of AA btw, it looks too blurry to me ...hoping they can update this setting 😄

I'm playing on PC and the graphics looks blurry, muddy more than in odyssey. Textures are also kinda low res. I'm playing at 1080p but still i can tell the difference between Valhalla and previous game. The image in odyssey was much more sharp, clear.

Check your graphics settings and make sure the Resolution Scale settings is set to 100%. For some reason, mine defaulted to 80% when I started so the resolution was below native.

@lordphoenix82nd It's at 100% i double, triple checked it. I tried every anti aliasing preset

I'm not a fan of forced anti-aliasing, and for some reason they decided to force it on with this game, even though i'm pretty sure previous [censored] creeds you could disable. I very much want the option to disable aa, ubisoft. hopefully there is an .ini file you can change it in.
In the meantime we can make the game much more tolerable and less blurry, by using the image sharpening option in videocard control panel. that said, even at 100% sharpening with amd, it's too blurry imo using any of the ingame aa settings (low is terrible, use medium or higher). I use a program called "reshade" as well, it lets you use an option called "luma sharpen" which lets you add another layer of sharpness. using these two together (you could probably just use reshade by itself) you can control the sharpness to a point of actually being way too sharp and developing a kind of halo effect, so use your own personal eye/setup and balance it. the good thing about reshade is you can change it on the fly and immediately see the effect without having to reload the game or anything. I use it all the time now when games force on god awful blurry aa. maybe someone using 1440 or 4k res might not notice so much, but at 1080 (the recommended res) forced aa its just awful.

little bit of a rant while im here lol: why the heck would they want to take detailed graphics that the customer has spent a lot of money on a pc trying to get the best possible detailed image, the devs have worked hard to produce a detailed sharp artwork, and oh ok lets blurry that up now and ruin all that hard work with a rediculously blurry aa setting forced on. it's a very silly logic imo. the only reason i can see they do it is to cover up pixilated hair and special effects like fire, but this is the laziest and silliest solution imo, to ruin otherwise detailed imagery with a terrible solution that solves one tiny problem and then creates another gigantic one (imo). How about coming up with better fire/hair effects that dont pixelate with aa off (the hair isnt an issue in this game im talking about other games that force blurry aa)?

I found the ACValhalla.ini, but changing the antialaising option to 0, only sets it on low, it doesnt turn it off (berserker rage scream).

@dragonofoz This is why I don't understand why devs don't add a sharpness filter option that you can tweak. I can deal fine with TAA's blur if there was lumasharpen to counteract it

    @l_assassindom Run a benchmark and:

    1. Make sure the game is actually using your graphics card to render and not the onboard graphics. You can select the graphics card through Nvidia Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings > In global settings select High Performance NVIDIA Processor. Then select program settings and select the game and set to use global settings. Also you can configure PhySX in the same control panel.
    2. If in the benchmark you see the driver version for your graphics card in red you need to update the driver. You can update by downloading GeForce Experience, logging in and updating the Game Ready Driver.

    The same problem.
Valhalla looks very blurry on any antialiasing option, it just cannot be disabled completely for some reason.

Ubi, please, give us the option to disable the AA or make a built-in sharpness filter.

@sonycman set 100% or higher resolutetion scale. Game look perfect 2k 100% scale.

Postprocess effects (water, odin sight, highlighted enemies etc) look incredibly blurry in comparison to the rest of the game, as if rendered at a different quality - see images below

As far as I am aware, this is not tied to settings. My render resolution is at 100%, and while I am running on medium settings, I have experimented with turning settings to max, and this issue still persists. The only way I've been able to remove the blurry effect is by running the game at 200% render resolution, however this obviously has a significant affect on performance, and it's clear that this is a bug, not a design choice, as it appears not everyone has this issue.

I'd be grateful if anyone would be able to help out and offer a solution here.

    Specs: GTX 1070, i7 4790K, 16GB RAM, running at 1080p

It looks like there's some reconstruction happening in Valhalla. You can really tell when you're on a boat, using Odin's sight, or when it's raining in game. Ghost Recon Breakpoint has it as an option called "Temporal Injection" that results in similar artefacts and blurriness in the same way Valhalla has. If this is true, I understand why it's there because it does provide a performance boost, but similar to Breakpoint it should be a graphics option, not forced on like it is here. For now, the best remedy is to turn the resolution scale up to about 150% and just eating the performance hit from that. If anyone from Ubi Support reads this thread I'd appreciate if this gets passed on to the devs, because if I'm right adding that extra graphics option would really benefit PC players.

@sattium85 I have a 144hz 1080p monitor I have the scale is at 100% but it makes no difference. To counter this i have set the resolution to 150% my frames are decent but can be better. Compared to odyssey i never had this problem. It always seems to be AA that causes problems for me. Which is why i always turn it off. However we can only set it to low and to be honest I don't see a difference between the three settings high, mid and low

    The same for me.
I just hate AA and disable it in every game, because I prefer unfiltered jaggy, but sharp picture.

Inability to disable that damn "soapy" anti-aliasing is annoying as hell 😞
