The key does not appear on the table outside when distracting Maximilian with the NPC girl in 'A Rivalry for the ages' mission.

Either pay the 150 or use the 5 Chemistry to get the statue for the moment.

after traveling to lunden i spoke to maxamillian and since i did not have the lvl 5 charisma to get it for free and didn't want to pay for it if i could help it, i payed the girl on the corner to distract him, but now she is just stuck in a loop describing different heads and there is no way i can find to get into the house, could not find a way in from the outside and the doors are locked one is barred and other requires a key but ive not been able to find it.

going back to a previous save is not an option as i didn't think of it at the time and have since played over 12 hours since then and so its long been saved over.

is there anyway to fix this so i can complete the quest?

I'm having the exact same problem.

The same choice, the same loop in the dialog and so far, no way to enter the house.
The key is nowhere to be seen and there's no other way to break the other door.

Some help please, I'd really like to avoid being softlocked

@aldarys hopfully we get a solution, if you find a fix or figure it out please post it here, since i couldn't find anything on the quest, only walkthrough i found only covered convincing him to give it you to free or pay him for it.

Same bug here.

I ran into this quest breaking bug tonight and it has really soured the game for me. The quest giver is an important character and the source of more quests, but he'll be rendered useless if this quest cannot be completed.

I hope the developers are working on a fix for this, and the other broken quests and problems players are having, as I have no wish to continue playing now.

It'll teach me not to pre-order a game and instead wait a few months until patches have been released.

is there suppose to be a key spawn near him? I cannot find a key anywhere. Unable to pick pocket the man, the girl wont leave so I can start over. I fast traveled away. restarted the game, came back and she's still distracting him.

Same issue here. Is there anyway to pay him now? Even after travelling away, restarting game and coming back the girl is still distracting him.

Having the same issue as well. Likely doesn't matter but I'm playing on PC.

I went to maximus’s house and spoke to him, and instead of paying for the statue or using my charisma I chose to have the little girl distract him from his door. They’re both now around the corner talking about statues and there is literally no way to get into his house to get the statue. No key, no way to break open the barred door, I even tried to pickpocket him to get a key but it doesn’t let you. Please help.

i’m having this same issue, and have no idea what to do. I even resorted to trying to use piercing shot to bust the barred door lock through the wall. If you guys find a way around this please let me know.

Also having the same issue. The key should be on the stool but it disappeared when I looked for it to get in the house and now the kid is on a loop of 3 lines that distract maximilian. On PS4 if that matters.

Also experiencing this. I've tried traveling away, doing other stuff, sleeping in my settlement, etc. but when I return to Lunden the kid is still distracting him and the key is still missing from where he was standing.

update: I just completed Smashing the Compass and returned to Maximillian and the quest had reset. I was able to successfully complete it as the key was now present. So any of you have this bug, if you haven't done Smashing the Compass yet, it may resolve itself, fwiw.

Same issue here, key isn't showing up even on reloads.
