    Hi Guys/Gals,

I have the same issue. I tried to open a support ticket. However I could not add any savegame files. The response to my attempt was in red stating, "You can't upload files of this type".
I have played on another 24 hours of game time with this bug, however it's becoming increasingly difficult to raid, especially if your one raider is in trouble.
    Any help would be appreciated.
I really don't want to load a game save from 9th or 17 December, (my save games around this period) - As you can only have so many save games, I have been deleting some as I have gone along, my next save game is 21 February.

What is the latest position on this game bug.

    Cheers

  • Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section 1.10.32.

    Hello there @tadbear1!

Thanks for reaching out to us. I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble uploading your save game. Have you tried uploading it as a .zip file?

The development team are still investigating this issue currently. If you're able to submit your save file, we can pass this along to assist in the investigation. Alternatively, if you're still having trouble, can you please upload your affected save to the Ubisoft cloud? We should be able to grab a copy of it from there too. Please make sure it's your most recent save!

    Thanks! 😊

Hi thanks for your response apologies for the delay in responding.

I believe that I have found out why the problems are occurring.

I started a new game, then couldn't proceed past the initial setting, (Denmark). The boat to England just stayed in the river. I then went to my old save games, on my previous play through, to a point where the crew were not dead on the harbour. I then had 2 more occassions where the major players were dead. Once in sons of ragnar and again after the sons of Ragnar. I went back to my home settlement and all the shop keepers and others were dead, but you could speak to them lol.

I then looked at my save games and discovered a commonality. In each of the cases the save game before the troubles said that after the save game that free roaming was not available after this point. I went back and forth to see whether this was the problem.

I discovered that on each of the occassions when people were found dead, I had free roamed, doing something else in the area or going to a new county. I then went back and forth in one instance free roaming and in other instances not free roaming. Every time I free roamed I found dead main characters, each time I didn't free roam the major characters were alive.
The problem is that during game play there is not a notice saying that you cannot free roam until you complete the quest that you are on. I only found this out after going back to savegames and reading the information in the savegame notice e.g sons of Ragnar, whether it was an automatic or manual savegame etc. The notice stated that you cannot free roam after this point.

I hope that this information will help others from having this bug.

Also more importantly that Ubisoft include game notices very clearly on svreen telling players that they must complete the quest before free roaming.

I also hope that Ubisoft can fix this bug. As I have previously stated the game only allows you a limited number of savegames. The way I, and I am sure many players cope with this is to go through and delete some of the savegames so that they can make new ones, rather than over writing old save games. This results in problems when these bugs occur, because quite often a player may have deleted savegames, then need to go back a number of hours in their game time, so as to find a none bugged save.

    I hope this helps.

    Cheers

who was I kidding this game is broken. Everyone is now dead and the armour I PAID FOR FROM UBISOFT IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE.

It may be time for a refund. I have tried to load almost all of my old save games and people are dead and or map references are not available.

I have spent approximately 80 hours playing, only to have one problem after another.

There may also be an issue on pc when the "river raids are available screen comes up" who knows.

What a shame. This is potentially a fabulous game.

    Hello there @tadbear1/David!

Thanks for taking the time to share such a detailed report of your experience, as well as to share you suggestions regarding the investigation. I've passed this along to the development team to see if this can assist with the investigation. I will also pass on your feedback about more clear signs on whether a player should or shouldn't free-roam during certain sections of the game.

Please be assured that the development team are investigating the raiding crew, as well as other NPCs, spawning into the world dead. Once we have more updates to share from the investigation, these will be posted within the forums and within our News & Announcements forum.

I'm sorry to hear that parts of your armour are missing now. Could you please let me know more about this so we can investigate this further. Which armour has gone missing?

    Thanks! 😊

    Hi back again.

I have continued to investigate this issue.

I played a further 20 hours, going back and forth in savegames, but the crew always died and so did the main NPC (all those involved in quests, even the animals died). The problem always occurred when I had finished Sons of Ragnar but had yet to report the success back to Ravensthorpe,. It didn't matter whether I went straight there or went to burn the scroll with the main characters name on it first. The game made an Exclusive save before this then deemed that I was roaming. So they all died. I then went back an hour or so in game play and tried again and again, but even those savegames had the dead crew and NPC main people at the next point in the game, even though they had previously been okay when I first played through that part, so something is impacting on past savepoints. I almost gave up the game completely. Only pure stuborness and an appreciation of this game kept me going.

I then kept going back through savegames until I found a point where they had not long got to England and the crew was alive, so I played on from there for another 10 hours (So yes more than 30 hours additional game play since we last messaged - I said I was stubborn, or maybe silly). Each time I complete a part of a quest and the crew is still alive, I save the game, then close the game down and copy the savegames from the Ubisoft Launcher, to a separate file. In the hope that if or when the crew die, I can delete the savegames from the Ubisoft launcher and replace them with the savegames I had saved elsewhere.

I am also not making any quest active before I try to move to a saved location e.g Ravensthorpe or a river docking point. I am also not moving outside the county which is the current main quest, (very tempting as I also purchased where the abilities are located) and only moving after I have finished a stage of the quest. Plus I am saving very very often, (but first moving to ensure that the save is a safe one}. I aam also moving by boat as often as I can rather than running or by horse.

As for the missing armour. It was the Draugr armour I purchased from the Store. When I went back to my savegame when I first got to England I had the armour again. I also believe that if you have this armour and start a new game, then this creates a bug that stops you from leaving Denmark. (I believe that I read somewhere that the armour would only be available once you reach England, however you have this armour when in England for a new game). I did start a new game but couldn't leave Denmark. So I believe that I can never start a new game, unless Ubisoft does something about this.

I lost my armour again in the last 10 hours of play through, (from the savegame where I arrived in England on my first attempt at a play through), plus some gear, (swords, bows etc). Although I could still use them, but they were not in my inventory. I checked over with the Smith and saw that my whole current equipment did not show up. So I quit the game, came back in and it was there. Unfortunately I had swapped out my Draugr helm during his period so I no longer have the Helm at all. I am not sure if I have lost all the buffs (3 I think) that I had attatched to the helm. If you could do something about this piece of gear I would be grateful.

p.s Just in case there was a program error (The Assassin's Creed Valhalla game), I did a verification and it came back clear, so it's not just my copy.

    Cheers

    Hello there @tadbear1/David!

Thanks for continuing to investigate our issue with the dead NPCs further. We appreciate you taking the time to write up a report of your experiences. I've forked your discussion off into a thread of its own, as it seems you are affected by several issues not covered within the original megathread. By creating a specific topic for this report, we can keep the investigations and information separate and in one location.

I'm going to separate the issues you have reported into two topics. :

    • NPCs spawn in dead following Sons of Ragnar
    • Draugr armour has disappeared from inventory, and prevents player from leaving Norway

I'd like to first take a closer look at your dying NPCs. Does this still always happen when completing Sons of Ragnar, even on the "newer" save games you have started since the original report? If you have encountered all NPCs (and animals) suddenly dying again during Sons of Ragnar, or any point of gameplay, would you please be able to send us a video of this? As this is strange behaviour, this would be very helpful for the investigation.

I'd also like to clarify something about your save games, in particular the earlier ones. When this issue occurred, were all earlier saves prior to the event also affected? So for instance, if you loaded a save before the current quest, or even before Sons of Ragnar, could this older save also be affected and have dead NPCs within it?

Thank you for letting me know what steps you have tried since reloading an older save game. I understand that this is not a convenient way to play through the game. Have these steps help you to progress further than before within the game?

I will also address the issue of your disappearing draugr armour, and being unable to leave Norway if you have this armour in a new game. For clarity's sake, I'm going to address each report one at a time to try and prevent any confusion. Once we've been able to take a closer look at your dying NPCs, we'll take a look at the draugr armour as well.

    Thanks! 😊
