This is 100% caused by fast traveling out of the sewers. I did that the first time and you miss a few dialogs (probably some trigger variables) and come into the market from the wrong direction. If you exit from the sewers as intended you come on The Needle and the poor guy hes attacking from above.

If Ubisoft just disables fast travel from within the sewers during this quest it will fix this bug.

I was lucky and had a save to go back to from before I entered the sewers. Did everything the same but found the intended way out and The Needle was attackable.

I've got this problem on xbox one as well. as it gives you both quests I thought id do both before returning, the dialog from Hjorr talks about both of them being killed so it can be done like that but Ljufvina just gets up turns around and sits back down, trying to talk to her again Eivor just goes through the what I assume is the dialog after killing the Firebrand, then she gets up and sits back down. I don't have a quest waypoint on the map and no previous save to resort back to prior to this questline.

Okey so I got stuck in this quest aswell but I was not able to continue after I had searched the trade depot (the quest shows up in the quest menu but as soon as I close the menu it does not show the quest I'm tracking) so I pledged to another area and continued with that. I noticed that I had to repledge to Jorvik after I finished the other region so I did that but the progress I made in Jorvik was still saved and I was still stuck at the same place. A couple of days later (today) I did a contract for the kid in Ravensthorpe and as soon as I finished it Eivor started to talk about the quest in Jorvik like I just finished searching the trade depot. I tracked the quest and suddenly it shows that I'm tracking it so I travel to Jorvik and finish the quest without any issues (YAYY). Now I can continue the story and hope I won't run into any more bugs.

@nelznswe I have the same problem with the trade depot being bugged--tried what you did and unfortunately didn't work for me. Not sure what made it work for you : /

@gaimerlady That's too bad, I have no idea if it was because of the contract or something else but I think it was because the second I finished the contract the bug went away. Fingers crossed your bug goes away.
If you have other regions to complete you can do that or just sidequests, I really enjoy those small rune stone quests were you line up the symbol on the stones.

Well, I no longer get the green icon of the needle mission. I still can't kill him, but the green mission icon has disappeared on the map. I still can't kill him and I can't advance in the game.

@damage99 Totally agree. I got luck and had one last save game before the bugged ones. I almost pushed it off the list trying to figure out what went wrong. There are a couple of things that might be triggers on your way out of the sewer for sure.

@UBISOFT - How about a do over option for missions.

@desperadoz2010 I'm going around picking up things I missed, but eventually I will run out of them. I guess I'll just quit playing and give bad reviews on the game. Support said they want save files but give no solution to getting them.

@ubikobold how about some guidance on submitting those save files?

i was able to fix this bug, you have to go around the jorvik town, find the entrance to the sewers and there will be a cutscene that fixes this, you can google only playtroughs for this quest that will show you where the entry is.

The trade depot bug does not fix with that. I tried that already.

After assassinating the Needle and the Red Hand leader, I was told to return to Ljufvina. She said we needed to go to the archives but she won’t follow me there no matter what I do. I’ve gone back like, 3 missions to retrace my steps, and got nothing different. My storyline is now at a standstill and I’m not a happy camper.

The target icon doesn’t even come up for me.. I have searched the trade depot.. killed everything, looted and searched everything. Nothing. Cannot get it to do anything. Cannot even make it to the part I learn that I need to kill the Needle? Give up? Shame really wanted to max out a couple gear packages to legendary.

I can confirm that I DID fast travel out of the sewers, instead of taking the intended path up the ladder

I am also in the unfortunate position of being 92 hours in, so no chance of reloading a save.

@pigr0t I have the same issue. When I speak to her she just sits down again and doesn't go to archive. Tried going back to other saves and then it bugged other parts of the mission (killing targets) so had to stick with the save where I had actually killed both targets but couldn't then reach archive. I have submitted a ticket but who knows if it'll be picked up.

Frustrating as it's preventing me completing arc and I'm nearly done on all others!!

This is worked for me : back to the previous quest, before you triggered this bug, while going to the needle's area, don't directly encounter him face to face, because once you did this, after the CG, his guards will spot you immediately, I think this causes the bug. So just approach his area from the rooftop, right above him, then the CG will automatically play, after he stabbed the merchant, nobody spots you, bug will not occur so you can assassinate him from the rooftop.

It is very difficult to fix that problem. They have to patch that bug, but you have to go back to a saved game and start from there again. I hope they come up with another solution, but I don't think so. It's a shame to lose so many hours of gameplay due to a bug, but that's what we have for now. Good luck to everyone.

@ubikobold can you look into my ticket. I cannot progress any further I'm the game and Yorvic is the only arc I'm left to do. I have killed both targets but then I can't progress further after speaking to her in great Hall and she won't go to archives. Just sits down again.

I completed Burning the Firebrand and Pricking the Needle, then went to speak to Ljufvina. Each time I speak to her it goes through the dialogue about the Needle being dead and that we need to search the council's offices in the Archives, then Ljufvina sits back down and I am prompted to speak with her again. The only quest showing as incomplete is Burning the Firebrand.
