As the title says, I'm pretty sure every player in the game would love for Mjolnir to have a throw and return functionality. To keep it balanced, it could be made to consume an adrenaline charge. Also, I don't see how it would break balance, since while it is in flight, you'd have no weapon in that hand.

The animation could simply be a quick cast deal, where Eivor chucks it out in whichever direction he's facing, say... 20-30 ft, and lightning crackles off the hammer in a small aoe along the path of the throw. Obviously, the knockdown/knockback would have to affect all opponents (hence, the adrenalin cost). Then the hammer automatically returns to Eivor's hands with a satisfying thud.

I mean, c'mon. Who doesn't want to do that with Mjolnir? To keep things fair, Gungnir could be charged to cast lightning bolts like javelins. Same deal, adrenaline cost. Excalibur could do a ground stab shockwave of light with knockback. And so on. Buy mostly, Mjolnir.

  • Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section 1.10.32.

@dracoleviathan I was really surprised you couldn't throw it. I'm pretty sure you could even throw it in nethack in like 1994.

@kreutzgang Yeah. I know that there's not really any reference to such abilities in actual norse mythology (so far as I know), but it's so expected and badass that I guess I just took it as a given that it would be throwable. God of War nailed the feeling with the Leviathan axe. I woulda thought Ubisoft would have jumped at the chance to put their spin on "the real deal."

    • There are no references of it in the mythology.
    • Warhammers are rare if not inexistant during the viking age (as suprising as it may sound)
    • imho there are already too much fantasy in the game 🐷

@torfinr Then you might as well not use mjolnir at all, or half of the abilities in general as they are hardly realsitic. AC has always had sc-fi in it and sci fi is fantasy.

@kreutzgang That's what I do. Or what I dont do in fact. I prefer keeping my gameplay as realistic as possible. And it's quite possible.
You can easily avoid the fantasy elements of the game.

@torfinr I'm aware as I also just ignore aspects of games I dislike where possible. Throwing Mjolnir might actually make me bother with it though. Like we have that throw umpteen axes ability so why not? 😜

Also, missile reversal, if you use it on the fat guys, can involve throwing a thing back and forth multiple times. I LOVE THAT MECHANIC. 😄

@dracoleviathan This is pretty amusing, but I have to agree with @TORFINR on this one. Marvel’s reinvention of Thor with a throwable hammer that seems to move unstoppably except by those who are worthy (like Odin, Thor, and Hela in the MCU) is not founded in any sense of the original Norse mythology.

That being said, I have wondered why Ubisoft never included an ability action to throw a weapon. In AC3, Connor can throw a two-handed axe and reacquire it, and in Valhalla we have the Standard Bearer enemy type that can repeatedly throw its own spear. It seems odd that Eivor never thought to do the same thing. What’s stranger is that Eivor has a rope dart with which he has at least two abilities, and there are two other abilities that utilize his hand axe being thrown as well... so why not other hand-based weapons in general?

@thenorfolkian i will just say like @kreutzgang half of the abilities in general as they are hardly realistic. so I wouldn't mind that if we get an ability to throw mjolnir
