If you go to the first Eivor's home at Norway (heilsboer or something like that) and go into the longhouse throw the roof, you can find Varin, but not his ghost, a real Varin... He even is afraid if you use your weapons near him.

I guess that's not intended, maybe an easter egg glitched?

Other strange thing is that outside the longhouse you can see a helmet (maybe Varin's?) With an interaction button, but nothing happens.

I would like to know what should happen there, cause I think is broken nowadays.
    Thx for your attention

  • Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section 1.10.32.

@davidv81 Thank you for pointing it out. I had been there but only grabbed the treasure, never climbed in through the roof. Yeah, this is really weird, and obviously broken.

There are several spots in the longhouse and outside where you can interact and cause Eivor to share some memories about the past.
The helmet near the Odin's statue is one of them. I interacted, she said something, then the interact was gone.

I when there, inside LongHouse ... It was before Patch 1.1.0 and no-one was there, only the "interact memorys",
so seems Varim came with Patch 1.1.1 (or even 1.1.0)
Thanks for telling us about this, I will avoid to go back there (don't want to break something)
    Nice day to you 🙂

I was there and tried everything, and then I loaded a previous save....
I don't want to break my game, and those weird things have a big chance to do that.

Maybe I'll go there again to try the other "memories"

Anyways it should be nice to have an official answer about these "strange things" 😅.

If it's a bug or something not working as intended, it must be arranged.

It's really weird to see Varin alive.

yah LOL, he is just standing there even before patches, if you tried to kill him or bump into him, he will run across the house similar to any normal NPC, rest assured it doesnt affect anything, finished the game twice with the same bug.

Indeed, a very annoying bug that completely breaks immersion. How could someone at Ubi mess up such a peaceful scenery by forcibly putting there a walking-dead NPC which serves no purpose at all? The place should be empty, period.

Valhalla is a decent game that is unfortunately completely unpolished.

I guess it could be some kind of cut scene where you see the ghost of Varin when you return to your old home, but it must be glitched and he is there in flesh and blood, a great nonsense.

It would be nice to have an official response about this thing.

Has anybody seen him lie there dead before? I'm thinking they might have place his corpse here and he got resurrected accidentally.

@kormac67 If you remember the beginning of the game, he's killed outside in the courtyard.

@ryusennin Yeah, right... Anyways, he dies when Eivor is a kid, so it's a nonsense that his corpse remains there 15-20 years later.

Maybe they should paint him in blue to seem a ghostly guy 🤣🤣
