Hey @orcbeard92, thanks for bringing this to my attention. I checked into this and can confirm that the team is still looking into this at this time. Right now, I don't have any further updates to share, but please keep a lookout for our public channels, as well as our news and announcements page in the meantime. Also, I will share this suggestion with the team for consideration too! Thanks for bearing with us!
@ubi-smash Thanks for your help.
One more thing I've noticed is that the new Ireland hairstyle/beard seem to behave closer in colour to the original red. Which means somehow the colour of the vanilla hairstyles has been more obviously bugged somehow. The difference between the DLC styles is almost completely different. Much noticeably redder and is the same colour as the Irish NPC's. I've added some more screens to add to the case. The Ireland ones are basically ginger, as they should be. The vanilla styles are orange. Note how the eyebrows are a different colour too.
There's just a lot of weird stuff going on with the red hair colour lol.
@orcbeard92 Thanks for sharing these images. That is a very noticeable difference. I have also shared this with the team to further review the DLC styles too.
@OrcBeard92 Update: This style has been shared with the team and they are already looking into it now, but thank you for tagging me to this one to check over too!
Hey @OrcBeard92, thanks for checking in! I can see that this is still with the team to further review, however, I don't have any further information to share at this time. Once I hear any feedback from this or if there is any information needed, I will be updating this thread to let you all know.
@ubi-smash Will this ever be addressed my friend? I guess it's intentional at this point which is fair enough I suppose, I just wish we could get the other red hair too, or something. It's a real shame, it looked awesome at launch.
Very sorry for the lateness getting back to you, @orcbeard92. Also, my apologies, but I still have no updates to share on this right now; but once we receive any further news or announcements on this, we will keep you posted. Thanks for holding in there in the meantime, and please tag me here or let us know if you have any questions.
Has this seriously not been fixed yet? I just came back to the game after many months and the red hair color is still broken. There's no way this is intentional, because some hairstyles actually look disgustingly ORANGE. It's supposed to be a subtle, darker shade of natural ginger red. But even if this *is* somehow intentional, why not just add the old color in as an option (Dark Red)? I'm so confused and annoyed, because this used to be my favorite color to use for male Eivor...
I miss this.
@warlordspinal 100% agree. The celtic DLC styles in particular look broken as heck with the new colour. Where it's like a weird mix of red and the new orange colour.
If people requested this new 'auburn' look, or whatever, I don't know - but adding the old red colour back would be much appreciated. Especially as you see NPC's with the old colour, like Sigurd etc.
Really hoping they can do something about it.
I wonder if this big shakeup patch will be the one to finally fix the red hair?
@orcbeard92
a thing you may don't know : the "new buggy colour" you are talking about is a real (considered as rare) natural one ...
not well implemented, yes, not always well reproduced, yes, but in real life it's not a "buggy color" (a recessive gene is not a buggy one)
how it's mixed in the game with dark colors is not well done for sure, how it behaves in certain light conditions is also realy weird ... even in photography it's a very hard color to reproduce
Note 1 : this color is not a "one single color for whole head" : it has many variations on one's head and one's body (can go from light blond, even white, to black...) : I would say that it's more a "colors" than a color
Note 2 : this type of redhead color is changing with age/health + with light + with hygrometry
Note 3 : Also to notice, all colors can vary with screens (technical specs, settings, age of screen, ambiant light, even with the kind of calibration made if any) and maybe this is also where Ubi had some problems : saturation made on one screen can have weird results on other screens (but this shouldn't happen)
Personally, I really hope Ubi will keep it with a better implementation (if they can)
The best option for everybody should be to have differents type of readhead colors depending on the hairstyle you choose ( having 3 or more redhead color types per hairstyle would be more problematic for Ubi, I guess )
@azullfr Of course, if they want to keep this current colour, I am honestly not too bothered. Because there are actually things to like about it. But it's just poorly implemented like you say, with the lighting and so on. Can look practically luminescent at times.
Adding more customisation is honestly needed for the hairstyles and so on in Valhalla, as they are a bit lacking. So, adding the old colour back would be much appreciated, and they can keep the current one too.
@ubi-smash Any updates on this? Red hair colours still look bad to this date. I'm reminded because the new hairstyle that came in the Dawn of Ragnarok DLC actually looks fairly decent in the red, closer to how the others used to look, but the others haven't been reverted back.
Tbh I think the light blond and the dark brown hair colours could even use a little tweaking. The dark brown hair meshes really show where there's clipping into Eivor's scalp and that also looks bad, while a couple of the light blond meshes just look quite flat, similar to the red.
This might seem trivial in the grand scheme of things, given the litany of other technical issues this game has, but at the end of the day there's not really much point having all this customisation options if most of it doesn't look great.
@lelixandre I'm hoping it will be changed or they at least add the old colour as an extra option. But sadly after over a year of the unannounced and seemingly accidental(?) alteration, I don't think it will ever be fixed.
@orcbeard92 Yeah It's really unfortunate. I was pretty committed to the idea of a red-haired Eivor at first because the red looked so awesome at launch, I didn't want yet another protagonist with basic brown hair. Also c'mon it's the Vikings, they were actually quite known for having red hair.
No offense, I have brown hair myself. I'd use the light blond but I don't think that looks really all that great in this game either, rather flat on some hair meshes. The only one that looks consistently great to me across all the styles is the light brown-ish blond.
I also made a couple other threads in the past week to see if I could get it talked about again but no response as yet. I'm not going to keep spamming the forum with it by making new threads but oh well, we tried.
