So I recovered the cask and saw I had to carry it 3000+ meters. I decided to see if I could fast travel. I could, but when I arrived it was without the cask. Checking the map the cask is now marked on Sciropescire and it is about 250 meters below me. I cannot recover it to complete the quest.
Will the quest reset or am I out of luck?
Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section 1.10.32.

Quick update.
Ignore the quest marker and go back to the original location. Cask respawns.
Hey there, thanks for sharing this tip! Have you encountered any issues since respawning the cask, or do things seem to be operating properly at this time?
So cask respawns but the quest marker remains in Sciropescire. Returning the cask to Ravensthorpe doesn't trigger anything. I quit AC and started it again. Same thing
The cask location is originally in Grantebridgescire in the marshes. Utbech iirc
Same issue but didn't fast travel. Went by boat, 250m underground is the quest maker
Hello,
When you go back where the cask respawns go south on that island. The Erk is waiting near the water as he said in the quest.
You must neither go to Sciropescire nor Raventhorpe.
Have same issue collected barrel the drop off was 250m underground 4000m away.. Long boat ride got the barrel to top of hill and nothing
Well seems both mission go back to same stupid place and the last mission of the cow catcher Bertham just stands in same location..
@ubiwan both missions end in sciropescire I can't finish EIVOR (either) mission
Barrel is now lost
Bartham stands at top of will chatting on will jump on horse but jumps off

Thank you! I found him along the shore next to an old Roman aqueduct across the river from Duroliponte.
Avoid walking in the water or the swamp because you will drop the cask to the bottom and can't pick it up. You will need to go back to the hut in Utbech to pickup the cask again.
Also be careful when going south there is a zealot on the road that is kinda rough to fight.
