I think the Modern Day should be scaled back to its simpler form of the Desmond era, and keep the Pieces of Eden, Animus and the ISU Technology

Everything else like what we saw in AC Valhalla

    spoiler

I found it a bit of a stretch and frankly bizarre

    What do you think?
Has it lost its direction, and would you like to see it scaled back, and do you think that Assassin's Creed needs a Modern Day in its current form

    Thoughts

  • Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section 1.10.32.

@bitebug2003 I'm not sure what simple Desmond era you speak of. The modern day story during Desmond was much more complicated than the modern day story in any of the last three games. You get kicked out of the animus once during the transition from Norway to England; where you can choose to read stuff and talk to Shawn and Becka, or return immediately to the animus. The next time you get kicked from the animus is after completing the story. In AC 3 there were at least 3 to 4 times you got kicked from the animus and had to complete activities before you could return to the animus. AC 2 you had to travel to the new site after Lucy had you sync data, then later you had to turn on switches, and I think there may have been one other time you got removed from the animus (It's been a while). Brotherhood and revelations were the same in taking you from the animus and forcing you to complete activities in order to return to the animus. So, I think the current modern day story in Valhalla was much shorter and could almost be entirely skipped if you just went straight back to the animus.

@jcar4327 I felt that The Desmond Era was when it had a story that was easy to follow. It changed with AC Black Flag when Modern Day started to bury the lore in walls of text, and it's in those documents and audio logs where the story started to fall apart. The uninspired first person section with forgettable characters didn't impress me either. Some of the documents were also quite hard to read, and the majority of them I just didn't bother reading.
I didnt mind being pulled out of an Animus session and was surprised when it didn't happen in AC Valhalla.

@bitebug2003 I guess maybe I misunderstood what you were asking then. You were talking about scaling back the story, which to me means making the modern day portion of the game shorter and smaller and less interfering. After reading your recent response I think you are talking about returning the modern day story to the more in depth departures from the main game like we had during the Desmond saga. While I would not have an issue with this, I think you would find many more people opposed to the idea because there are already several posts discussing removing the modern day story all together. Which, in my opinion, would be silly.

I personally never liked the modern day segments in AC games. They pulled me out of the immersion, etc and while I understand this was for plot involvement, it still felt forced, instead of a decision, or smooth transition from the animus to modern day.

I never played Origins, but thankfully this new series of AC, i.e., Odyssey, and Valhalla, were minimal when it came to modern day segments. I have to say however, it was extremely well done tying multiple arcs together in Valhalla for the finale. 10/10. That being said, if the modern day was only a introduction of things for a new game, with zero more interaction with it, I would be completely fine with that. I think at this point, the modern day needs its own series of AC games, not that I would play them, but I think it deserves that focus on a future series.
