For the simple reason that there’s stuff on the skill tree that I don’t want to unlock.

I like to keep things as challenging and grounded and immersive as I can make it.

So for example — I won’t upgrade my health at all, or rations bag, the reason being I want hunting to remain meaningful.
I want to explore and scavenge the world for various resources — I want to keep that in-game economy intact so it remains purposeful.

I want those moments where I’m wounded coming off a skirmish with the enemy. So I then have to carefully go looking for food, knowing I’m vulnerable, and running into more enemies would mean death. I want those moments of tension....

So I really hate linear skill trees that force me to unlock stuff that potentially undermine the experience, just to get an ability that I actually do want....

    Just saying......

  • Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section 1.10.32.

I'm not a fan of being able to cap out the trees completely. Once you hit 400 there's no longer a choice in builds which makes the game interesting.

Do you mean max out the skill trees? Unlock everything?

Part of the problem is I think — is these games are too long.
The length enables the player to unlock everything and discourages second play throughs. Trying out different builds.

@lamoi I had a lot of fun while "leveling" and constantly respeccing various ways in order to get passed various encounters like zealots and the sisters. Then you hit 400, cap it all, and forget about it.

Yep I'm now over level 300 too and I just put my skills into whatever at this point. Doesn't matter
