Okay, I think I found the right place for this.
So, what's up with the hypersensitive censorship in the forum?
I was typing the word s.e.x in a conversation and even that was censored. I get wanting to flag off curse words but that is not a curse word.
Really, what we need, and what most modern forums have, is an option to allow adult language in your settings.
Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section 1.10.32.

@elearon I'm going to agree with you here. There is an extreme amount of over censoring in this new forum. I used a word that has a definition of. "something of extremely poor quality". This is based on a definition from look up on Bing. Granted the word does have what some may consider offensive if it is used in a certain way, but the word, to my knowledge, is not generally considered a swear word. I am not putting the word on here because I don't want to be accused of bypassing the censors, but it starts with c and ends with p. it has four letters and would fit into the sentence: all this gear is (blank).
@jcar4327 I ran into that one as well, and had intended to mention it, total crap <--- c.rap.
Also, unless it's totally automated, it'd be really strange for them to punish you for bypassing censorship in the Feedback forum, when discussing censorship.
Just as odd that they'd censor the C-T word [censored] (which I'm assuming they just censored) when I think it's only an offensive term in the US. Rather American-centric for a European company.
@elearon Yeah, I'm in the US and I know there are words we use here that are considered offensive but not in the UK or elsewhere. A word for cigarette comes to mind. Someone in the thread stated that the game may be rated "M" but the forums are not; I didn't think the forums were rated "G" though.
Hello everyone,
Thank you for coming together in this thread to share your feedback regarding the language / censorship filter here on Discussions. I sincerely apologise that your posts were not acknowledged until now, but would like to reassure you that this is a topic we are continuously reviewing and this thread was already mentioned as a part of these discussions (no pun intended). We'll continue to assess which words and/or phrases should or should not be censored in line with our terms of use, forum rules and other content guidelines.
The two initial words mentioned in this conversation - sex and crap - are no longer included in the filter, and can be used. I must however stress that inappropriate or offensive usage of these words is still considered against the forum rules and may be sanctionable depending on the degree of misuse. Any terms which are considered offensive may be included in the filter, regardless of whether they have different meanings in different places or are considered less offensive elsewhere. We want to make sure that these forums are a safe and welcoming space for all of our players, and our language filter helps us in this goal.
Circumventing the filter is just as punishable as using a blocked word itself, so please bear this in mind for the future as well @Elearon, and do not use punctuation or special characters again in future to bypass it. Please consider this a formal warning against that kind of behaviour. You may find it strange to punish, but it is explicitly written in our forum rules not to do this, and ignoring these rules will therefore lead to sanctions. Thank you.
If you have any questions or concerns, I am happy to try and help with these. However, please do not circumvent the language filter to query any additional words / phrases. Thank you.
Replying simply to see if the word muffin is allowed here. If you want hyper-sensitive word filters, try having the audacity to reference blueberry or chocolate chip on the Ghost Recon stats website. Presumably, because the first 4 letters are English slang for a woman's genitalia.
Hey there @Rootimus,
If you have any specific feedback with regard to the language filter / censorship, we'll be happy to discuss this further with you and take it on board. We're open to discussing changes or updates to the system or terms included if there is a valid logic behind it.
With regard to your previous post itself, local slang as a general rule can be very specific to particular dialects / sociolects, so this would be something we'd review on a case by case basis. The word muffin is perfectly fine to use, though. 🧁
@ubi-woofer - my point, which I'll repeat less diplomatically here, is that y'all dun goofed.
The Wildlands stats website is filtering all words containing the first 4 letters of the word "muffin". I'll wager it would also prohibit the English town of Scunthorpe from being mentioned on account of the far more vulgar slang in there. There's a way to set up the RegExp stuff to only filter out the exact 4-letter words, while permitting larger words that co-incidentally have the same strings of letters, and there's a wrong way. Ubisoft opted for the latter course of action. Given that you've publicly stated that Wildlands has been abandoned, I can't imagine you'll fix the numerous issues with the stats website at this point, so it's all moot. Still, thanks for replying.
