Are they in the game or not? And if not, why not? And it better be a better answer than “they were rare” cause you have great swords!
Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section 1.10.32.

@madness3v3 i put my response in the old thread here https://forums.ubisoft.com/showthread.php/2280238-Could-it-be-that-there-are-no-one-handed-sword-in-AC-V-!/page5: (https://forums.ubisoft.com/showthread.php/2280238-Could-it-be-that-there-are-no-one-handed-sword-in-AC-V-!/page5) as well as everyone else who made comments about just so people can catch up on everything
@dtheawesome9010 That forum has, along with others there, have been archived. So I brought the discussion here.
@madness3v3 Dunno if it helps, but it seems the new forums started with a pretty active support staff. Maybe those people might help you out?
On topic: for me it would be weird not to have swords. Like unimaginable weird to be honest. The sword is just .. it needs be there. I mean we get the dual wield option. If it is a real AC, the basics should be us wielding swords and daggers at the core of it. With all those "extra" weapons being those that are more (or even less) common in the specific period we find ourselves in. Now that Vikings do plunder, we should use a lot of swords, even those that are in use of the knights. Now when it comes to legendary gear and stuff, here too, we should be getting our hands on some exclusive mythical weapons from Viking legends, but .. there is a lot of legends about knights and their swords too, so they can just go crazy with their mythological (and fictional ^^) weapons. As long, of course, as there is some more weapon classes. Mythic axes 1 to 17 would be .. rather lame :3
Nevertheless, Ubi normally did rather well with weapons and I actually expect them to up there game again with this title. We'll soon see what we got.
@madness3v3 but is this really necessary... in the old forum (with way above 100posts) was reaching the point were it wasn't a discussion, but just a lot of people stating the same complaints about the lack of 1h swords... I think Ubi has (by now) seen that people would like 1h swords, no need to start the endless complain about it all over again.
@aloninor This an egregious absence of true. By making the topic one of the first threads, we can keep the issue at the forefront and hopefully get a definitive answer.
@madness3v3 What answer do you need that hasn't already been posted on countless twitter, forum, reddit or youtube posts?
As of now - there are no 1h swords. Keeping the permanent complaints coming is just a sign that people don't like the answer, not a sign of the lack of one....
@aloninor I want to know why, if there really aren’t any. Who was the genius who said “Let’s get rid of one handed swords and put in giant [censored] great swords”?
@madness3v3 It's really dumb and it takes away the viking experience. The greatsword is also just not good. We're not playing as Cloud Strife here.
This honestly a deal breaker for me. I've had enough of Ubisoft's way of avoiding "cliche's". No shield on a spartan, and no-one handed sword on a viking. Instead forcing us to play as Cloud Strife with a 6 foot great sword. And why not use the speed and the weight of the animations found in their very own Cinematic trailers? I think these gameplay animators and animation directors have been watching way too much Vinland Saga and Nioh and not enough of the Vikings series.
This is a game for children despite the "M" rating.
Viking axe stereotype, they probably just wanted that certain aesthetic. Pretty weird though, if it had 1h swords I'd use it over axe (most people probably would).
It's odd, I do agree.
Did they confirm 2hd sword + shield though?
But the greatsword is anachronical anyway: vikings never used such a weapon. Same goes for flails...

As I saw daggers in this game are long almost as 1H swords (40 to 50 cm) and super fast. The best wepons for my Eivor.
With dagger in your left hand you can jump from far away to the enemy, quickly stab them few times and jump back. This attack use stamina.
I'm still not sure for my right hand. Probably another dagger
All 2H weapons are way too slow for my taste. Still 2H sword is by far the fastest 2H weapon.
@aloninor I hadn't seen this before and had no idea there wouldn't be 1h swords in Valhalla. What exactly did the devs say in response and why isn't it anywhere here in the forums?
@forcefrank Our only source is a tweet from a dev. Where he answered a question saying all swords are two handed by default and our other option is seax daggers. At this time there has been no follow up. We don’t know if he only meant the demo or there really aren’t one handed swords
@forcefrank it was discussed extensively in the old forum, now archived. The only explanation we got was that swords per default are treated like 2h weapons. This was confirmed on twitter (sorry can't remember by whom - I think the creative director, but this might be wrong). I try to find the tweet later when I'm closer to a pc.
I have seen some youtubers showing the shop where you can buy items for helix credits. There is a scimitar but i can not say how tall it seems to be. But now i'm quite sure that we don't have misinterpreted the tweet vom the developer and that we will not have any one-handed blades and also not any two handed maces in the game and it is really disappointing for me. Hopefully Ubisoft will add those weapon types later or at least the one-handed swords.
@madness3v3 Thats exactly what i thaught, a 2-handed scimitar would be idiotic and I wish you were right, but if you want you can take a look by yourself at the livestream
