Unable to progress from quest In the Ansence uin the ealderman.

I picked up a quest item before the actual quest and now the game wont let me progress and finish the quest.

The Absence of an ealderman. I was gear hunting in the location where you later will find the dead ealderman in the quest and picked up a family broche which you are supposed to give his son.

I started the Lincolnscire arc, and got to the point where I found the dead ealderman and although the person at his corpse wouldn't interact with me, I looted a brooch. I even carried the body back to the son, but the son won't interact with me, so I'm stuck here. I've depledged and repledged but no change. I heard this was a known bug, but the patch on 1/14 did not fix the problem.
