I loved Assassin's Creed Odyssey. I thought it was such a great game and I was equally looking forward to Valhalla coming out. Now that I have it I have to say I am quite disappointed. Graphically it is the same quality as Odyssey which is great, yet it runs really poorly. Stuttering cut scenes, bad frame rate drops during most of the larger fights.

Then we get on to the gameplay itself. Honestly it feels like the developers took Odyssey and just replaced the Ancient Greek setting with a Viking setting but didn't add much while at the same time they actually lowered the quality of a few aspects pretty badly. The sound for a start is terrible. What is with the loud thunder clap every time you assassinate someone? Why is the sound of you walking around so deafening, even when you are in stealth mode?

In Odyssey, when you were on the ship, your crew would sing sea shanties and it actually sounded like your crew were singing. And if you changed the gender of your crew then the voices changed accordingly. In this game, the songs being played while you are on the boat do not sound at all like they are coming from someone on the boat with an instrument. Honestly it sounds like one of the vikings brought an MP3 player and a speaker with them and are playing a song recorded in a recording studio.

Don't get me wrong, I like the setting. The artwork in the game is fantastic. I hate to complain but I am sorry to say it really feels like Ubisoft got lazy making this game and cut a lot of corners.

Oh, and just a sideline complaint, WHY oh why did you feel the need to put some characters in the game with American accents. I know they are only very background characters with only a few lines of dialogue but seriously, come on!! America hadn't even been discovered at the time of this game's settings. It just brings the integrity of the game down.

That is me done. Rant over!!

  • Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section 1.10.32.
