    Hello,
I would like to ask for some advice. I bought AC Valhalla, I downloaded it succesfully and when I wanted to play it than it wrote it that my GPU doesn't support DX12 (AMD radeon (tm) r7 370). But I found that my GPU should support DX12. Can you tell me please, if I can somehow make it play or I have to buy new graphic card and how to choose the best one? Many thanks.

  • Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section 1.10.32.

Hello everyone! Please accept my apologies for the delayed response. I'd like to provide a few answers to questions that have been posted here in this thread, and hopefully clear up any misunderstandings regarding the system requirements. I have merged several threads together here to form this megathread, so I do apologise if prior conversations from the separate threads appear a little disjointed in this bigger thread now!

Firstly, I'd like to reiterate that DirectX 12 is a minimum requirement for Assassin's Creed Valhalla - DirectX 11 and any previous DirectX versions are not supported. In addition to this, feature Level 12_0 support is required for compatible GPUs, and we specified this in our announcement / news article here. If your GPU supports DirectX 12, but does not have Feature Level 12_0 support, you will be unable to play Assassin's Creed Valhalla as your GPU does not meet the minimum requirements for the game. If you are unsure how to determine whether your GPU supports Feature Level 12_0, you can find this out by running a DXDIAG report, visiting the "Display 1" tab in the pop-up window and under "drivers", find the line "Feature Levels", which should list all supported Feature Levels. Please make sure that, if you're a laptop user, you're utilising your dedicated GPU and not your integrated one as well!

If your GPU supports DirectX 12, has Feature Level 12_0 support, and meets our system requirements / high-end system requirements (as appropriate for the performance you want to achieve) - and you still receive the "Non-DX12 Video Card" error - please make sure to run through our basic PC troubleshooting, ensuring that you have the latest drivers for your GPU installed and the latest OS for your PC in particular. If issues should still persist after that, I would encourage you to contact us in a support case or Live Chat for us to investigate further with you and fully analyse the DXDIAG report you already ran, and your MSINFO report as well. Please attach these documents to your case using these instructions. We will consider any refund requests submitted on the basis of not meeting the requirements for the game on a case-by-case basis.

I do not know of any plans to add support for the game on Feature Level 11_1 or under as the requirement for 12_0 support was stated prior to the game's release, however I will communicate all of the feedback and comments shared in this thread with the developers for them to consider it. Please do not rely on this support being implemented however, as I cannot promise that it will be. If you would like to share any additional feedback, you are welcome to do so in this very thread. 🙂

TL;DR: DirectX 12 is a minimum requirement; Feature Level 12_0 support is a minimum requirement; if you're still receiving the "Non-DX12 Video Card" error despite your GPU fully meeting our minimum system requirements and having completed our PC troubleshooting, please reach out to us in a support case or Live Chat for further assistance with your MSINFO and DXDIAG files attached! No plans to add Feature Level 11_1 or below support that I know of, but I've forwarded all feedback left in this thread to the devs for their consideration. Refund requests submitted for not meeting the minimum requirements will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Thank you for reading, and have a great rest of your week. 😄

Can run the game, I get a message to say "unable to initialize graphics system. gpu does not support dx12" but direct x diagnostic says im running DX12? AMD R9 280 x with all drivers updated.

@enkiduscurse The card is likely too old. As stated from product page of the card " Even though it supports DirectX 12, the feature level is only 11_1, which can be problematic with newer DirectX 12 titles." so that's probably it.

@enkiduscurse Upon looking at the requirements for the game, ye the graphics card is too old to be able to play it. 😞

We are trying to start the game but popup declares the gpu isn't directx 12 compatible, dxdiag states that it supports directx12. The card is a Radeon R9 270.

I have 2x nVidia GTX 780Ti in SLI and get the error "Unable to initialize graphics system. GPU does not support DX12" when I try to start the game.

Is there any hope for a patch to have the game work on DirectX Feature Level 11_0 or it will remain only playable on feature 12_1 ?

Same problem by me. My wife buyd me the game as a present and now i'm unable to play the game because i have the GTX 960M (with DirectX 12 FL11_0) instead GTX 960 (with DirectX 12 FL12_0) which was stated in the official minimum requirement. So if someone is not a pc poweruser its a bit trickie. I read on some other forum the main difference between Feature level 11 and 12 is the following:

"From what I've found the problem seems to be Conservative Rasterization. That is the main difference from feature level 12_1 to 11_0. For some reason that wasn't hard coded into Origins or Odissey but it is on Valhalla(?). I don't see why it can't be disabled, take the FPS hit and run the game on Kepler cards."

Maybe its possble to (and Ubisoft will) solve this issue with a simple patch.

I found a thread on the oddysey forum on this topic https://forums.ubisoft.com/showthread.php/2291025-Valhalla-Not-Launching-Unable-to-initialize-graphics-system-GPU-doesnt-support-DX12?p=15239547#post15239547: (https://forums.ubisoft.com/showthread.php/2291025-Valhalla-Not-Launching-Unable-to-initialize-graphics-system-GPU-doesnt-support-DX12?p=15239547#post15239547)

I ve asked to move the discussion to here to gain some traction. No working solution yet though.

@mertromancer I think they not making any patch . And why? "they only edited to show that it requires a certain dx12 level few hours ago."
This was at yesterday. SO they edited the requires site at yesterday of dx12 feature lvl 12_0 is needed to play the game! Shame

This is not something for the developers to fix. Reading the minimum requirements we can see DX 12 is a Minimum requirement.

Minimum Configuration - Low preset 1080p 30 FPS

    • Processor (AMD / INTEL): Ryzen 3 1200 - 3.1 Ghz / i5-4460 - 3.2 Ghz
    • RAM: 8 GB (Dual-channel mode)
    • Video Card: AMD R9 380 - 4GB / GeForce GTX 960 4GB
    • Storage: 50 GB HDD (SSD Recommended)
    • Operating system: Windows 10 (64-bit only)
    • DirectX Version: DirectX 12
    • Additional note: Requires GPU with DirectX 12 (Feature Level 12_0) support

Unfortunately this is one of those things where people need to read better. DX 12 is required, time to upgrade those old cards to keep playing the latest games im afraid. There is still no harm in asking for DX 11 support I suppose.

Edit: This info was available back in october. Not "a few hours ago" as suggested.

@fo0ryyy You are free to check both my links in addition to googling it yourself. They had the information live on both of those sites, a month ago. PC Gamer edit date is a month ago as well. You can also find several other sites with the info posted from a month ago. DX 12 is not new information.

@x0z3ro0x You're right, I just looked at a picture from Ubisoft on twitter and assumed DX 12 was ok because I had it on my pc, (the picture didn't say anything about a DX 12 gpu though).
But my GTX 770 is better than the GTX 960 (checked on gpu.userbenchmark.com), so I concluded I could still play this.
In retrospect it was stupid, but directx has never been an issue before, it was always the memory of the gpu. It ran Odyssey just fine, also I don't have the money to buy a graphic card without having to scrape to get by in the next year. Guess I'll wait 'til next year when I'll finally earn a good wage.
