I never touched the game again after the desync message popped up. And I will not spend another cent in dlcs or the helix store until they change this policy (which obviously will never happen).

It just makes me laugh that all the top people involved in this game had to step down because of sexual harassment. These are the pure people who are going to tell you how you should conduct yourself morally in a video game.

@evilhippo when i was a kid (12yo), i used to like the assassins more, but nowadays they are being depicted very annoying, so arrogants and ofcourse sinces they are atheist, they always trying to act so "woke" and "cool".. at some points of the game u can hear basim wanting to laugh at the christians and also how arrogant he tend to be because of his believes... if u read the codex about the hidden ones/assasins and the order/templars... the templars codex makes more senses to me... the assassins way of thinking wich is (nihilism) is very inmature and view humanity as a robot who thinks a like... simplistic way of thinking.. they believe giving absolute "freedom" will make everyone good and respectful somehow.. wich seeeing how real life people is thats wont likely be the case... also the templars one.. seens more realistic to me.. more drastic but at the same time more realistic... they added the part about "isu" superiority because apart for that thing.. their ways has for me more senses then the assassins...

yeah the 18+ tag makes no sense.
Sure the combat is a bit more gory but in a lot of other parts it sure doesnt feel like 18+

I dont feel like an Jarl at all, i am constantly doing other ppls bidding, like the stupid spirit hunt or the egg hunt, [censored] is that all about.
Your constantly running around doing errands for other ppl.

When you go raiding, you cant even truly command your troops or even select your own troops and select abilities or gear for them.

@mitsunari3 It would be okay if you only got that warning if you go out of your way to kill them, but they rush into the middle of battle making it friendly fire. Most of the time when I got the desyc warning, I didn't even know I'd hit a civilian. Personally I preferred the system in Odyssey, where they attacked you and if you wanted to avoid killing them, you'd have to run away, and if you did kill them, more and more would come and you'd end up with a massive bounty.

That said, Valhalla is very linear in its design anyway and would have been better off without an open world. You cannot infiltrate storyline forts, and when attacking them during quests, you have to do it in the way the game tells you to.

You can infiltrate storyline forts. I did that. But it usually makes more sense grabbing the treasure once you have properly conquered in during the story.

@kormac67 when I tried it, the enemies just kept respawning, same as they do if you do something other than what the game tells you to during the sieges.

I totally agree with this. We should be allowed to kill civilian NPCs without the game restarting the level. This feature is there in some Far Cry games and also in Ghost Recon Wildlands and its really really annoying.

AC Odyssey allows us to kill innocent NPCs, last night I went on a rampage and was surrounded by bodies, it was so much fun. Sometimes you just wanna have fun ya know?

Im sad to hear that Valhalla has re-enabled this annoying feature. This is a single player game, it will not affect anyone but the person playing the game. My idea is to make it a menu item that can be turned ON and OFF.

    Allow killing of civilian NPC?_____[Yes]........[No]

This way both kinds of gamer will be happy. They already have that choice for Blood FX so why not for this? Also yes the automatic horse speed-control - why?? Just ...why??????

I love the AC, FC & GR franchises from Ubi but these are some very irritating features that I hope will be addressed by giving the gamer a choice.

Vikings are very romanticised in the game, yeah. It's most noticable when raiding a monastey, Eivor screams to burn and plunder christian gold and then everyone just ignores all the monks and people running around and kill soldiers only. We are supposed to like Eivor though, and if he/she would slaughter innocents, that would be more authentic, but not very likable.
What I really don't like about the restriction is, that especially when wielding a two handed weapon, civilians would be stupid enough to run into the blade while fighting soldiers. I really love my two handed sword, even if it's not authentic. There were no two handed swords back then like we have them in the game. Really looking forward to get my hands on a one-handed one. 🙂

I briefly tuned into an Odyssey stream this week and the guy was just murdering civilians to get his bounty up.
I left again right away thinking "wish this had desync on civilian kills like in Valhalla".

    @dv20katana
Ubisoft Montreal doesn't know how to make games fun.
i would never admit i play AC (O) in front of my friends, the restriction of the series is embarrassing.

its insulting to tell adult gamers "you are not allowed to do this"

@mitsunari3 I agree with you 100%. Odyssey did it right. You got hunted for being a bad person. If i am a Viking and play my own style i get rid of everyone who is in my way. Thats how you build up immersion and bond with a character.
There should be consequences though, which are basicly opening up a lot of possibilities for game and story design.

I much preferred the way it was handled in Odyssey. Bad deeds result in the notoriety, which results in the interest of the local mercenaries. In Valhalla there’s no misdeeds, so a level of complexity has been removed which makes the game more vanilla. You actually have less choice.

I should point out that it is possible to kill NPCs without retribution in Valhalla, I won’t state how though because Ubisoft would probably patch it, which is a waste of time and resource.

To me the desyncronization stuff just feels like a cheap solution, like invisible walls, “game glass” etc. We murder individuals wholesale and slaughter entire forts, yet are honorable somehow. The incongruity between what we claim to be and our actions can never truly be reconciled so long as our character is expected to do these actions.

There are many aspects of Valhalla that are a step backwards, and some that move forwards. This probably needs its own separate thread though.

They really missed a trick with this, since it would 100% make more sense to have a bounty on a notorious Viking. Could have had Saxons hiring out people to stop you and your crew, even putting up barricades like they do in the River Raids mode. And while the Zealots are limited, they could add a separate tree of mercenaries from all across dark age europe. Franks, Frisians, Irish... Really could have built up the world far more than they have, and given some impetus behind raiding.

A notoriety system could have been put down where burning a monastery with many civilian casualties or a high death-toll in general, would get you -100 negative rating, and angry people after you. While just robbing the place in a raid with minimal damage would net more lucrative awards, and less notoriety.

A real shame. No idea why they didn't expand on Odyssey's fun systems.
