Same issue here, just found out that the quest was supposed to give an ability but I'm too far past to just revert to an earlier save and do the quest again, and I really don't want to start over and lose an entire weeks progress just because of this bug but its annoying me that I might have to finish the game without being able to get rank 2 on that ability. Looking on the forums seems like console players are also suffering from the same bug. Hopefully Ubisoft support can do something about this soon.

Did the side mission to save the wolf from a basement. Apparently you're supposed to receive the man's best friend skill from it? I do have man's best friend at lvl 1, but that's from finding the skillbook for it.

@hardcobra3053 you cant. Unless you have a previous save where you haven't done the mission. I think we are just gonna have to wait for a patch.

Same problem here; I got the wolf in my lounghouse can't interact with it ; and didn't even knew you could get an ability. Too far on the game rn to redo the quest

I have the same problem, here's a video:

The skill is from an ability book, not the quest or the wolf. You get it from somewhere with a higher power score later than the quest. Can't remember where. The dog is not interactable with you, only a passing comment made for realism by you character. The dog does not come with you, nor travel with you at any moment. The skill gets upgraded from "dog attack him" to "dog stay and fight for a while" with another skill book upgrade. Also the wolf and the fox wander round the settlement, they're not fixed to that one location. Walk off, come back, they might have returned.

I completed the quest but I did not receive the "man's best friend" ability. The wolf is outside of my longhouse but I cannot interact with it.

I literally watched someone unlock the skill at the end of the quest.

@pastrygator ah well, like I said I can't remember where I got it (it was over 200 power score ago for me), and I got the upgrade from a book. However the rest of the comment stands.

I am have this same issue on PC. I completed this quest and was not awarded the ability but was unaware about the reward until it I was way farther into the game. It was awarded when I picked up the book in Lunden which normally would upgrade the ability to level 2 but I am stuck with level 1.
