Having the same issue, I completed the quest the wolf is in my longbhouse but no ability. Doesn't show up in completed quests, and I didn't realize I was supposed to get the ability untill hours of gameplay later so i don't know when I saved it last. I would 4ather not restart the game because honestly I've done a lot and would not be willing to do it all over again knowing bugs will probably cause me more grief.
@ubi-woofer Just to add to my video, I think (I'm not 100% sure) I did this quest immediately after waking up for the first time from Asgard after upgrading the Seer's tent to a house. I did not encounter any abnormalities doing the quest itself besides it apparently not completing properly and awarding the skill. Thanks for acknowledging the problem and glad to help!
Follow up to my previous response because I didn't give much detail and there was actually some other strange behaviour with the wolf in settlement (apologies that the video is a little dark, if it is actually much help I can try to re-record)
@ubi-woofer I can't reproduce the issue as I am far past this point! From what I can gather is that if the wolf chases some random animal during the end or doesn't follow you back correctly, that is what causes the bug!
@ubi-woofer I warned a friend about the quest before he did it.
First time he did it he also failed to get the ability, so he reloaded and did it again, what he did differently was to keep the wolf close to him as he got back to the settlement. He even killed some deer that wolf started attacking so it would keep following.
In my own case I just forgot about the wolf entirely and escorted the kids back to town, I saw the quest completed pop up, however there was no ability gained. The quest never went into the completed log which I checked way later of course.
I've also seen a few other support the idea that the wolf needs to be close to you when you hand the quest in for the ability to pop up.
I can't sadly remember what quests I did before or after but I've been very greedy with doing monastery raids so I had upgraded my settlement very high before doing the pledge quests, the moment I saw the kid in my long house I instantly started the quest. I might have tested out the bed for the first time because I think I met him on the way out of my room.
Apart from the ability, no issues with the quest except that I forgot to check where the wolf was so he was probably off attacking something. This thing with getting attacked by random hostile npcs also seems to be a rather reoccuring theme throughout the game stopping conversations on horseback with friendly NPCs constantly.
If anyone has a save game at this quest and can make a video, try testing the range to the wolf idea. Do the quest with both the wolf near and far away from you when going back to the settlement. Sadly I gave up on the idea of going back so I have replaced the save game by now.
Checking in with this same glitch on PC... I never knew you were supposed to get anything from this quest other than a wolf with a silly name who wanders around the longhouse and howls up a racket every now and then. Definitely never got an ability
@ubi-woofer
I can't say for sure what quests I was on when I completed the "A Little Problem" questline but I believe I had already completed all quests in Grantebridgescire and was working on quests in either Ledecestrscire or East Anglia as I completed these zones in this order and had not yet started Lunden. I received the ability after picking up the book in Lunden and by then I wasn't able to go back to a previous save before the quest to try again once I found out that I should have been granted level two of the ability.
The quest did the completion animation but I don't recall it showing a reward and the wolf was wandering around in the camp/longhouse after. I did just check my completed quest log and I am not showing the quest in the list.
@ubi-baron Here is my video, where you can see the wolf separates from us after the bridge while we are getting closer to our settlement. The quest was done right after a fresh start of the game. Before that I made "The Huntress" quest.

Now I have the ability from a book at lvl 1, but I'm waaaay overhead now around ~20 hours...
same issue here, what's even more annoying is that the quest doesn't show as completed, or as a current one. the wolf was sleeping at the end of my bed just chilling however -_-
I found the skillbook for the skill, so I've got it at lvl 1.. would really love it if ubisoft fixed the damn quest already =(
also reloading saves wouldn't really work as I did the quest about 20 ingame hours ago -___-
@ident_hun That's pretty much exactly how my experience went also, I remember the dialogue + Quest completed at the end with me just following the children. Lord knows what the wolf was doing in my game.
i have finish the mission for unlock this ability but the ability not show on the ability page and i can not restart the mission because the kid was not in the settlement
@asbel-lyhant Same problem, wolf got distracted and ran off. Now it hangs out in the longhouse but I can't interact with it/get the ability.
I have same issue on xbox. I even tried redoing the quest 3 times. I gave up and carried on now to far forward to go back.
Ubisoft need to fix this bug asap as people are too far in game and it would not be fair to have to go all the way back once fixed.
i can't remember if what the wolf was doing when i ran into that issue the first time through. I ended up reloading and doing it again losing 2 days worth of work. I don't have an exact save right at that point i'll have to do some raiding and setup the settlement so i can do that quest again.
So i just unlocked Man's best friend ability, but i was unable to summon the wolf. AND YES i have played Little problem quest where i save the wolf with the little kids.
@ubi-woofer
I ran into the problem myself and i went back to a eariler save and did it again and it worked. Since you want video of trying to reproduce the issue, i went back again temporary to try to help. So far i have yet to see it glitch out like that where the the ability doesn't appear. So far the wolf as remained by everyone's side on the way back to the settlement. I'll continue to keep trying.
@matchstickct
Yup me too. Happened to me after getting the skill from freeing the wolf. Dunno if this had something to do with it but anyway can’t move the shelf...
