So I'm trying to complete "rumors of ledecestre" and I killed the guard that had the key in the bathhouse but I didn't get a key when I looted him and now I can't complete the quest. I've had this issue a few times now where I will even pick up a key from a table and I won't be able to use it and it won't show up in my inventory. So if you guys could fix that so I can actually continue the game that'd be great, or just get rid of keys altogether since it's a pretty stupid gameplay mechanic. I've tried everything from reloading a previous save to restarting the game, even verified my game files twice!
Other than that great game!
Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section 1.10.32.

This happens for me too but does so in other areas. particularly the mythical artifact caves on the hunt for the Sword of Eden. Many of the caves have 'find key - open door' puzzles, however often the key doesn't spawn/go into player's inventory when you attempt to pick it up. For instance, One of the caves in Northumbria has a skeleton supposedly containing the key (highlighted/marked by odin's vision) however when I attempt to loot the skeleton, the key icon disappears and all I get is a random amount of silver.
I had SOME luck brute forcing through it by going back to previous saves, but have had utterly no luck in this latest one. Deoraby Spar Cavern in... (alright, now I'm laughing) Snotinghamscire.
Multiple hours spent saving, reloading, saving, clearing inventory, saving, restarting etc. still no luck. A lot of keys seem to have a unique pickup prompt it's not just 'loot' its specifically 'loot key' which is a hold rather than press prompt. when this is not present there appears to be a high chance the game forgets to give you the item you supposedly just picked up and instead gives you 'silver'.
This one HAD the hold prompt for pickup but once picked up there was no key deposited in inventory.
it's a real headache now considering its basically quicksave before every key pickup to see if the game rolls the bug dice snake eyes on me.
@erethrengarav Yeah unfortunately I think my whole playthrough was corrupted because it didn't matter how far back I went. So I made a new save game and the issue is gone now. infuriating to say the least but at least I can pick up the dang keys! Now if only I can get the game to not randomly freeze every 3-10 minutes that's my new issue. Safe to say I think PC got the short end of the stick again and Ubisoft poorly optimized it. because there is no reason for the game to freeze. I have a 2080ti and a Ryzen 3700x and I have the game on an SSD none of my parts are overheating and I'm not even using half my vram or ram. I've tried changing the graphics settings too and that doesn't change anything either. Once again Ubisoft shafted PC players it feels its a shame because the game is gorgeous and lots of fun but having to put this much effort in just to play the game is beyond irritating. It's honestly making me consider just demanding a refund for a faulty product.
@peeisinballs Same problem here !
Did you find a solution ?
Can we resonably hope for a patch of this echu ?
@peeisinballs I'm stuck on this too, does anyone have a workaround? I have tried reloading, fast traveling away, I have killed the key holder about 8 different times after various reloads and he never drops the key. I confirmed it was the right guy watching youtube playthroughs.
This is just unacceptable. Completely destroying the game experience for me.
It's not a hardware issue - its something about how keys are counted by the game. like they take up inventory space and if you manage to max out anything the game says you don't have enough space and gives you something you don't have instead. - like a no duplicate measure.
@erethrengarav YES SAME HERE!
Most keys just disappear. I'm so stuck on so many quests now, I might just as well stop playing. Not to mention all the treasure I can't get to. I remember Odyssey had a game-breaking bug, a quest NPC that didn't show up 40 hours in, and it took them THREE MONTHS to fix it. I fear this will be something similar, I'm now missing at least 5-6 keys, 2 of them blocking main story quest progress. And the keys are GONE from the game. Not in my inventory, not on respawned NPCs or on the ground if I return later.
Having the very same problem.
Started over only to face the very same bug again.
It seems to happen after picking up Ornir's Key and opening the chest for it.
The key won't leave the inventory like it should and then many other keys in the game will simply vanish after being received/looted.
