So installed this game and decided to do the benchmark after changing the graphic setting and what I saw was very weird drops in performance that I don't see in any other games (WD:L, BF5, Witcher3, AC:Ody, Doom, or 3dMark)

i read some thread that processor priority could be an issue and relate to these drops and so i tried "High" setting and what i saw was similar drops but less frequent so i tried "Real-Time" and the results were more favorable.

Am I misunderstanding what the issue is...as it seems to be how ACValhala.exe is spiking the CPU which then creates stutters in performance.

    Thoughts?

  • Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section 1.10.32.

lol, i just tested this on my 3800x RTX 2080 Super 32 GB 3200 system
And it definitely makes a big difference to set priority to realtime.
    Amazing.
I think the reason is that DX12 is much more integrated with the way Windows 10 functions, and therefor it has a siginificant impact.
It may be a solution for some other stuttering DX12 games.

Could be how they implemented it for sure, but there are a few DX12 titles that don't have this issue so maybe they can patch whatever is going on. just didn't know if others were seeing this and hopefully Ubi can look into it.

@cynicss it's an illusion, the benchmark just will stutter less with each consecutive run.

I have RTX 3090 and AMD 3900x with 32GB where Watchdog Legions has run butter smooth with raytracing for 40 hours and 100% completion.
Valhalla is a complete mess not in the GPU where its stable 17-21 ms in Ultra 5120x1440, but in the CPU where it was up to 200 msec (average 16% load) equal 5 fps, totally unacceptable.

Removing Rivatuner, Afterburner, iCUE and all other background "stuff" did help a lot, but this has not been a problem ever also not in e.g. Origin and Odyssey.

BTW: Running from a NVMe the total load time is less than 10 sec.

    @sunejoergensen

yep there is something going on with the CPU optimization...could it be Denovo DRM?

@cynicss I think you are right on the money. Denuvo has been known to cause issues in games with CPU performance. I believe it's constantly calling back to the Denuvo servers.

3 ways to get PC V1.02 running at all on my system 3090/3900x:
    1. Remove all background task
    2. Run program with realtime priority
    3. See Hardware Unboxed video
