@jaesima I figured it out but the work around didn’t work for me. Grr! I have a ticket in with UbiSoft and this far they have not been able to help either.
@captkshea13
What is hold alternative? How do you submit a ticket with ubisoft?
I returned the game on the xbox store and got the credits back. Contemplating buying a disc version to see if it makes a difference.
I cannot believe Ubisoft is not taking this problem seriously, i spent $80 on a game i cant play and probably wont be able to for a month or however long it takes for a patch release that actually optimizes the software. My Xbox one x has crashed over 40 times just trying to get past the scene where the boy hits the wolf with the axe.
@destinywaste1 Dont bother, i got the disc version and console has crashed dozens of times, cant even get past the first cut scenes as a boy.
I finally figured this out, i hope its something Ubisoft can fix but could be Microsoft that needs to slightly change what temp the console goes into overheat mode. My xb1x had good ventilation and all that but in the end what i did was change the color bit to 8-bit (not sure that did anything) make sure nothing else was running and flipped the console around so it exhaust air off the shelf facing you then held a high velocity fan i had up against the side intake vents, sailed right past the crashing parts. While playing i just set a regular fan a foot or 2 away from vents. Gonna take the console apart soon and deep clean, maybe re-do thermal paste but you shouldnt have to do that as a requirement to play a game on a console ever. Should be a few more graphic settings in the menu that let you take some of the load off the cpu briefly just to get past whatever taxing part for the console then turn them back.
Is there a way to download and play someone else's game save? It would be awesome if there's a game save available a little further ahead so we can actually play this game.
i finally got it to work. This is hilarious. I disconnected my xbonex, let it cool completely, stuck it in the refrigerator for a half hour, then hooked it up and immediately launched Valhalla. I got through the first cut scene with no overheating. Now I’m stuck on the character screen where you choose male/female character. Cursor moves but it will not let me choose.
I quit the game, relaunched and have the overheating error again in the exact same spot. Maybe I should try the freezer...
changed menu navigation to Focus and hold alternative to off. Put the xboxone in the freezer for 30 min. Got through the overheat and it allowed me to choose character. Playing now, but what a ridiculous way to solve a problem.
Same thing on xbox series x. Its not the console if this is the case.
