So far....
The combat feels slightly clunky. And also unresponsive at times I have to really hammer the heavy attack (right trigger) to get it to work. Often having to start with a light attack to get it to work.
also Ubisoft — you really need to tone down the rag doll physics. My killing blow is sending guys flying! It doesn’t look or feel weighty. Like enemies weigh nothing.
Im still trying to get used to these damn awkward controls — wish I could revert back to Odyssey controls.
But if you change things around a lot of changes then seem to conflict with other actions ! So I gave up!
Im playing on hard. I like how Enemies are not damage sponges. But seems a tad easy.
Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section 1.10.32.

@lamoi haha mate I fully agree with you, the rag doll physics once you or your allies finish a enemy is ridiculous! I honestly thought that it was a bug at first .
I'm from the UK and it's apart of my history , I wanted this game to feel as real as it could possibly be but me being able to smash a guy across the North sea with a swing of my axe takes that away .
The combat is awful your a game in 2020 . The best combat iv seen for this type of game was in a game called "Ryse son of Rome" the combat and the finishes where the best
Yup, I agree that the rag doll stuff is ridiculous. A small wolf (I think) threw me in several directions like I weighted nothing.
Also, when attacking, Eivor is OFTEN turning in a random direction and completely misses what was just in front of him, even if I lock onto the target.
The overall game looks good so far, but combat does NOT.
@lamoi I am finding it to fast. You can't enjoy watching the moves as you could in Odyssey, it's just a blur of action. And most of the time you are swinging into fresh air. It doesn't seem to want to attack the closest enemy unless locked on.
I might add that the AI is terrible as well. They'll throw their shields randomly and attack without them, Just rush and then start swinging in the air. Boss fights are terrible and stupid in an Assassin's Creed game. The movements are not polished, you're just hacking away like a mad man. The fact that you get about 5-6 executions, one for each type of weapon is terrible and get's boring fast (might be wrong on this, not sure if there are more executions). I might be wrong, but most fo the NPC don't even block or parry you, you start attacking them, they take the hits and suddenly poof they do a counter until you just hack them again and they just sit there and take it like men. Also...a bit of a rant not necessary linked to combat, but I wish we could slaughter civilians as well when doing a raid and not...stop killing or you'll get desynchronized....
From all these type of games, the only combat that was fun, hard and engaging was Sekiro. The combat there was fantastic, wish this was something like it and not just hack and slash a few times until the npc is dead.
@tar-naugrim What bothers me also is the power level stupidity. I want to go raid where I please and to have to fight for what I want and not just...well because we can't make the combat hard any other way....the NPCs have more power than you so you can't come here and kill them until you do the lower powered zones first.
Yeah Ryse of Rome was great. Enjoyed the combat.
I think because I’m coming fresh off Ghost of Tsushima — where the combat was sublime, and then to this — it end up feeling kinda [censored].
I mean so far I’ve really been impressed with this game. Great atmosphere. I mean I’m sure once you get used to the controls and unlock moves the combat will be more fun.
but hopefully Ubisoft will tweak it.
I find the animations in this game to be choppy and way to quick. This makes the combat feel weird. What worries me is that both previous did not have these problems this badly.
Also characters/animals floating slightly above ground seems to be a thing too.
Very poor release considering you have now 3 games that looks like copy paste to me. One would think you could learn from your previous games.
@lamoi
I just want to experss my profound agreement to this.
The combat in this game is literally the worst combat i have encountered in a very long time. The combat truly lack weight and impact. it feels weird. I think they need to look at the combat in Odyssey and Origin and do some brush-up at the Valhalla combat. Right now it almost puts me off the game as it is such a major part of the game.
@gom3r Agreed on the animations. What's even weirder is that it's not consistently choppy/quick for all weapons either. The greatsword and flail have great animations but I find that any of the axes or main hand shield look really weird. Damned shame about the limited stun attacks too, I was hoping for a great variety there.
@lamoi I position myself in front of a bunch of crates then swing my axe. My character turns left or right and hits a bowl of fruit.
You are fighting warriors with a full length shield and you are hitting them and not the shield. It's as if the shield is not there. You should be banging away at the shield in order to break it, not hitting the guy behind the shield.
And what's all this rubbish with stamina? Near every fight requires dodge, there is no other way to avoid the blow as it seems to lock on to you and hits you even if you run away.
The is more than one budget game on steam £4.99 that has better combat than this. The whole combat mechanic needs to be dumped in the ocean and have house Quebec fix it for them.
