@longjohn119 I would agree that it should be up to Nvidia but I have heard and read that they don't seem to care and want to blame Ubisoft. I tried submitted a ticket with them and have heard nothing in a week.
I'm happy people have found a work around and I agree with another user about not updating to the latest without a need. Only problem is many popular competitive multiplayer games these days outright require you to be on the latest drivers or the game won't launch. So I am forced to update to the latest Nvidia driver to play my other games with my friends online and revert back to the old driver to finish this game which I just put 70 hours into and am at the end of the last DLC unable to finish because the quest I'm on requires I dive into water where the game freezes the second I look up. Hilariously enough if I never look up it never crashes. Not sure if that helps someone at Ubisoft figure out what's causing this. I'm frustrated! Hoping someone ANYONE fixes this at some point lol.
@valderazgriz It's in the release notes of their latest drivers
Assassin’s Creed Origins stability issues using 531.18 [4008770]
So they are looking into it but it probably won't be fixed until next month. In the mean time just roll back the drivers. Unless you have a new game that absolutely needs the latest drivers then there was really no need to upgrade.
@longjohn119 Yeah I saw that. I also submitted a ticket with Nvidia and tested a few drivers. The issue is extremely consistent and easy to re-produce. I would imagine, though I am no game developer I do have an IT background, that this issue shouldn't be that difficult to narrow down. The only way this takes a month to fix is if they don't care about it. Which seems to be likely.
I just don't really have the time or care to sit here and switch back and forth between GPU driver versions every time I want to play a different game. That's ridiculous. I'll just wait until they fix it to finish Origins and finally start Odyssey. Picked up all the recent titles over the winter sale and can't finish Origins I'm on the last DLC on some of the last couple quests but I have to dive into water to finish and that's where it freezes/crashes for me.
@AlePlay I can confirm, did the same to fix the issue, rerolled driver to 528.49 and crashing stopped
@valderazgriz Do you really expect Nvidia to go to all the trouble to release a special patch for a game that is over 5 years old? Just roll back your drivers to January or December and it will work fine again
@longjohn119 Yes I absolutely expect Nvidia to fix what they broke. They have acknowledged the issue.
@valderazgriz Sure they are going to fix it but they aren't going to release an "out of band" patch for just one game that far less than 1% of their user base is playing, they'll fix it in the next scheduled driver update next month
