I am playing Assassin's Creed: Valhalla on the PS4. I was working on the River Raid quests and got to River Rhime to take on the quest "The Ulfberht Sword." For this quest, you have to defeat two captains before the champion appears. I went to Fort Ehrenfels and defeated one captain with no issue. I confirmed the kill, and the quest updated accordingly to say that I had killed 1/2 captains. I raided a few more locations and then left the river. After doing some more raids on other rivers to reduce the river defenses, I came back to River Rhime. This time, I went to Katzenelnbogen to kill the second captain. I defeated him and confirmed the kill. However, the mission did not update. It still says that I had only killed 1/2 captains. The mission markers do not update, and the next mission objective does not appear. By all appearances, I am no longer able to continue this mission and complete it. I have tried reloading the game to before I went on the raid and trying this again, but I get the same results.

Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section 1.10.32.

    Hi Vikings!

I'd like to reach out to you all with an update. The development team have confirmed that this issue wherein the Captain at Katzenelnbogen isn't counted when the kill is confirmed should be resolved with the release of Title Update 1.7.0 which will be deployed today at 12 pm UTC/GMT, 1 pm CET, 7 am EDT, 4 am PDT, and 11 pm AEST. You can read the full patch notes here.

Hello, the issue is with Katzenelnbogen captain. While exploring the location my crew members killed the captain, I found the body later, confirmed the kill with stabbing his heart but the game did not count that and in quest log I still have 1/2 captains before I can go to the champion. I have quest mark over Katzenelnbogen, but no captain there anymore, no body, nothing. Please, help) Thanks in advance.

@asv_leg Hello there, and welcome to the forums! I am sorry to hear you are having difficulty during the "The Ulfberht Sword" quest. To see if you still have the same results, I would try following our guide here and ensure that you have the latest update (1.6.2) installed, then try again. However, can you please provide a video demonstrating this if the issue persists? I recommend uploading your video to a video-sharing platform such as YouTube; you can copy the URL link into this thread.  Can you also ensure that your latest save is uploaded to the cloud? If you are unsure how to do this, you can check out our support article here

@blaze_941 Welcome to the forums! In the latest update (1.6.2), this should no longer be a problem. If you notice this still happening in 1.6.2 and you have tried verifying your game files provide any new results, could you share any recent video clips of this still occurring on your end? Also, could you please confirm if your save files are currently updated to the Cloud? We want to provide this information to the dev team if this is continuing. Thank you!

I am currently on the Rhine river on the river raids. I have taken out both captains and confirm killed them both. The first doesnt show up and he second one does but doesnt say anything. It still says that I have one of two completed. What should I do?

@ubi-smash Hello, the 1.6.2 patch was installed and the issue happened in updated version. I was trying to add URL of the video on YouTube here, but unfortunately, I always receive massages about SPAM. Maybe now i'll be able to do it. I have my save files in the cloud.

Hiya @AceOfSpades6207 thanks for reaching out to report this issue with the Ulfberht Sword quest. I would recommend completing our troubleshooting steps for the Xbox Series S|X before checking back in on these Captains. If there is a slightly earlier save point you may have, reloading to a point before killing the first Captain might be another option. Please let us know how things go!

I have tried all of those options and nothing has worked. There is no earlier save point that I can try and start again.

I was able to work around the bug, but it required me to reload an old save from before starting the mission.

I reloaded my save from before going to River Rhime the first time. This time, I immediately went to Katzenelnbogen to kill that captain first. That worked fine. Then I immediately went to Fort Ehrenfels to kill the captain there without ever leaving the river. That kill registered, so I was able to continue the mission.

I suspect that the bug is triggered by one (or both) of these things: 1) leaving the river after killing one captain, or 2) killing the captain in Fort Ehrenfels before the one in Katzenelnbogen. You may be able to prevent the bug by killing the captain in Katzenelnbogen first and then the one in Fort Ehrenfels without leaving the river. At least, that's probably the safest way to approach it.

While I was able to get around the bug, it's still a serious issue. If you don't have an old save, you're out of luck and have no way to complete the mission.

Hi @Crono09 @DDewydd @stripy_pint2 @JamesKissling I'm sorry to hear that you have experienced an issue with the River Raid quest 'The Ulfberht Sword'.

@Crono09 I'm pleased to hear that you were able to complete the quest after loading a previous save. I will inform the development team of those two possibilities that you mentioned so that they can investigate.

@DDewydd where you able to reload a previous save and complete the quest as Crono09 did?

@stripy_pint2 @JamesKissling can you confirm which captain you killed that was not counted as being killed? If possible could you also reload a previous save as Crono09 did and kill the captains in the order that was mentioned to see if that helps.

I met the same problem like them. When I killed the fist captain,it works well. But it did not recognised the second captain(In the lower corner of the map---Ketzenelnbogen).And I don't have any previous save,so I can't finish it yet.PLZ fix it as soon as possible,By the way,I can't find any main tasks after killed enemy with Rozanne(The Raven and the Cuckoo),I don't know why.

@Ubi-Keo I just met the same problem, killed the one in Ehrenfels, confirmed and got 1/2.
Then killed the one at Katzenelbogen, confirmed but stayed at 1/2. Tried a lot after that. Going back, waiting so i can go again but captain won't span anymore, last save from before is 30hrs ago.
