I have a 1080p monitor and use a custom 4k resolution (not DSR) for Super Sample Anti Aliasing purposes in various games. In Anno 1800 the game will extend beyond the edges of my display when trying this resolution in the Boderless Fullscreen mode. The game is correctly scaled to the display in Fullscreen Exclusive mode.

Some other games like Slay the Spire and Monster Hunter World correctly handle my method of Super Sampling in Borderless Fullscreen mode.

  • Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section 1.10.32.

    @Nicholas_Steel Hi !

I've take note of your report about an Issue when using borderless fullscreen mode and super sampling in Anno 1800.

For the purpose of our investigation, in order to isolate the Issue, I invite you to provide us with the following information :

👉 What method do you use to achieve custom 4K resolution ?

👉 Are there any mods running with the save currently used ?

👉 What are your PC specs ?

👉 Does the problem still happen after checking the steps of our PC troubleshooting guide, including verifying if the GPU has the latest driver updates available ?

If you'd like to share additional details, or have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out !

@Ubi-MrM I have a 1080p display and use this UI in the Nvidia Control Panel to create a 4k resolution. Then in various games I can choose 4k resolution and the drivers will usually downscale the 4k image to 1080p, effectively producing a Super Sample Anti Aliasing effect.

Some games won't let me choose 4k (no idea why), some games won't let me change resolution at all in Borderless Fullscreen mode (so I have to change my desktop resolution manually to 4k to run them at 4k) and some games won't produce a downscaled image in any mode or in certain display modes (like Anno 1800 & Borderless Fullscreen and Grim Dawn).

Regarding mods, there are some gameplay mods but none that would affect the rendering engine.

    Ryzen 3700X
    Geforce 1070Ti
    Windows 10

I'm currently using & sticking with v516.79 of the display drivers as the most recent drivers have some issues I'd like to avoid.

Could you provide any video clips or screenshots showing the comparison of what is happening in Borderless Fullscreen mode and Fullscreen Exclusive mode please?

@Ubi-Froggard Here's an example where the resolution is below the desktop resolution, and an example where the resolution is higher than the desktop resolution. Every other game I've played, the Borderless Fullscreen setting has kept the game scaled to fit the screen. In both of these examples the game should fully occupy the display with nothing being cropped and no desktop visible.

I am not using DXVK nor similar graphics mods when taking these images.

    Hey @Nicholas_Steel

Thank you for the screenshots you provided. Would you be able to do some test, so we can check how the game behaves?

We'd need you to test the following:

    • If you use DirectX 12, does the issue persists?
    • If you swap the monitor position in Windows settings, and set your second monitor to be on the left hand side of your main monitor, does the problem disappear?

To set the position of your second monitor, you could try these steps:

    1. Right-click on your desktop and select "Display settings". At the top of the page, your available monitors appear as numbered boxes. Each box represents a monitor.
    2. To change monitor position, click, drag, and place the numbered boxes to your preferred position. If you are unsure which monitor is "1" or "2," click the "Identify" link. The assigned monitor number will appear on each monitor.
    3. When finished, click the "Keep Changes" button.

I would also like to ask you if your main monitor and your second monitor are set to have the same refresh rate or it is different.

Should you need more info, please let us know.

    Thank you very much.

@Ubi-Galaxy I only have the one display hooked up to the PC. I did have a Samsung Syncmaster display but it died last week after 12~ years of service so the previous photos are of a different display that is replacing it.

The issue affects both DirectX 11 and 12 modes.
