Hi, this seems to be an issue that started with the latest update; after entering photo mode and then exiting it, the escape key doesn't do anything, and I'm unable to open the pause menu in the game. In addition, I know of several other people who are having the same issue.

  • Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section 1.10.32.

Hey @Qstlijku Apologies for the delay and sorry to hear that the Pause Menu does not work after using Photo mode. 😞

Have you tried verifying the game files to see if the issue still persists? Another step I could advise you doing would be to delete the config file which can help to solve certain issues that you may experience in game. This file will then automatically be created when starting the game.

Should the issue still persist, would it be maybe possible to provide a video of this issue? This would help the development team to investigate further once we have passed all the information on to them. 🙂

If you have any queries in the meantime, please let us know!

Yes super annoying bug, after some time we can access main menu again but this is very very uncomfortable.

At first I didn't know that it's caused by photomode. Maybe people aren't reporting because they can't figure it out too. But this is very obvious and dev team should be able to replicate that easily.

During the bug we still can access Map, Inventory, etc and even using Esc to close that page but we can't use Esc button to acces Main Menu to save or quit.

Temporary workaround: using Task Manager to minimize the game, resuming it will bring up the Main Menu automatically. But this is really serious so I hope they will release a quick fix very soon.

I have the problem also since latest update.

Also my game now constantly just quits itself for no reason. Started happening after patch. I have verified all files many times.

    @Ubi-Dastan

Seems that the 'Quit Photo Mode' that had an hidden change with TU 1.6.1 is the cause of these issues on PC

on PS4 it seems to work fine, at the moment I haven't had any issue and I'm enjoying this change :
I was waiting for this change since the game launched = the Photo Mode is now more usable during sneaky approachs and while being on 'high points" = you don't 'fall' anymore when exiting the Photo Mode

I shortly documented this TU 1.6.1 silent change in this video ( PS4 pro // AC Valhalla 1.6.0/1.6.1 ) :

even if it's not the PC users issue itself, I hope this will help to find where does this issue come from and by doing so, helping a little to solve it 🤞

@Ubi-Dastan I verified the game files, and I tried deleting the config file, but it's still happening.

I did notice something interesting though - if I have a PS4 controller connected, and I deactivate photo mode by holding the circle button on the controller, the pause menu still works with escape on keyboard. Only if I hold the backspace button on my keyboard to cancel photo mode does the bug occur and pause no longer works.

Yeah this has started to happen to me too after patch 1.6.1. As soon as I use photo mode, I cannot go to the pause menu anymore. There is a workaround though. Alt-Tabbing to desktop and then going back to the game will force the pause menu to open. But still this is a pretty serious issue. It could nearly be considered game breaking. So Ubisoft should definitely address this in the next patches, before they end the support for the game permanently.

That's what makes me worried. We are nearing the end of Valhalla's post launch support as the release of Assassin's Creed: Mirage draws closer. And if they don't address this bug before that date, the game will be left in a permanently broken state.

After exiting Photo Mode, the Escape key does not work and the only way to exit the game is to "Ale Ctrl Del" and end the process.
There is already a thread with this problem on the forum, but the problem is so serious that I am renewing it, especially because Ubisoft has announced a competition for photos from the Photo Mode.

Same problem for me playing AC Valhalla via GeforceNow.

After exiting Photo Mode, the Escape key does not work and the only way to exit the game is to "Alt Ctrl Del" and finish the process and reload the game.

    Hi Vikings!

I can confirm that this issue has been reported to the development team and is being investigated.

As a workaround you can Alt-Tab to the desktop and go back to the game and it will force the game to the pause menu or you can exit using a controller and the ESC key should work again.

    Apologies for the inconvenience caused.

Title is explanatory enough. Yet I add that Pausing works before using Photo Mode (taking any picture).
This is so annoying, really. Glad Quicksave still works and Autosaving is frequent otherwise this issue would have been devastating. Fix this ASAP, please!

The bug is not yet fixed and alt+tab doesn't work. How am I supposed to save the game then? When will this be fixed?
