the expertise does not give the expected values.
i have a heartbreaker build with 4 piece max at 170.000. and sitting on a total of 1.481.979 of armor in my defense stats. (mask and kneepads are full red)
2 pieces are tier 2 (holster, backpack)
2 pieces are tier 1 (chest, gloves)
so 2x2% + 2x1% = +6% armor total.
4x 170.000 = 680.000 + base 726.015 = 1.436.015
1.481.979 - 1.436.015 = 45.964
45.964 = apparently the 6% bonus according to the game which is wrong.
base 726k + 4x 170k calculation > 1.436.015÷100×6=86160,9
base 726k calucation > 726015÷100×6=43560,9
so how does the game get to number of 45.964??
i could have made a mistake (long day at work) somewhere so if anyone knows the answer plz explain.
Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section 1.10.32.

The 1% armor bonus is only applied to the base armor for the upgraded item. So a holster with 112,000 base armor will go to 113,120 on the first upgrade. That's why many people only upgrade weapons.
@suschunga if that is true and you do the math on the items i have on 170k it still doesnt add up. something is way off here..
if i swap my +1% holster with one that has no upgrades my armor only goes down by ~800 ish. while if true what you said it would have been -1700 since my holster is on 170.000.
im pretty sure somehing is broken on the expertise bonus armor system

The "base armor" for a L40 holster is 112,000, not 170,000. It's the number that's under the name of the item.

This is were you will find your gear pieces' Base Armor:
So upgrading a mask to Grade 10 will give 10% more Base Armor = 8,000 Armor. (This btw is the reason why it is best to first upgrade vests and backpacks as they have the highest Base Armor.)
When you are proficient in a item you get 10 points on your expertise level. To upgrade your gear to +1 you must have 100 points on the expertise level . So that would mean you have to be proficient in 10 items to upgrade your gear to +1. Its the same for level 2 100 points level 3 100 points level 4 200 points - I have not got pass that yet. Thats 20 items to be proficient in to get expertise level 4' I think I might be wrong on the first level you might simply need to be proficient to upgrade to +1 but will need 100 point to get to level 2 I can't remember. It says I am proficient in 23 items and am at level 3 with 32/200 - partial proficiency counts also.
When you go to the expertise bench on the left side it show how many Items you are proficient in out of 344 and above that how many point you need to reach the next level I am on level 3 and it says I have 32/200 points which means I need 17 more items to be proficient in at 10 points an item for 170 points to reach level 4.
This new upgrade system makes every drop and material very valuable you cannot get ahead with out material - so finally materiel is of the upmost value if you want to upgrade quickly so don't pass it up.
