everyone loves run and gun characters with autonomous trap gadgets, on attack everyone seems to also avoid every form of intel or camera-like playstyle, likely because people don’t want to support as supporting is extremely weak in R6 compared to other games by being extremely risky, super team and positioning reliant or completely useless if key conditions aren’t met like reaching the hardwall, breaching the hardwall, entering the site all without getting shot. Compare that to games like overwatch where you need a healer or you practically can’t win, or apex legends where scanning and droning gives the team direct wallhacks making supporting worthwhile, even COD has this wallhack mechanic now.
the new EMP is a support gadget for a support class already being a double red flag that players will not use it, with players often not working together or the hardbreacher dying resulting in the EMP user having a completely useless gadget, the new EMP has had a very minimal impact and didn’t solve the defender sided nature of the game, I haven’t noticed any change in the attackers getting more wins or my opponents ever using an EMP to breach hardwalls.
defenders are winning almost every round, some maps are off the charts like favella, where players who are clearly significantly better than me get stomped by inferior players who run and gun around the map without any support sometimes taking out an entire team by simply gunning, further confirming the irrelevance of the support gadgets
some serious measure has to be taken and quickly too to ensure that attacking doesn't feel like a forced loss, I've had a break from siege for this very reason and it’s a pain to see it drive me away again for the same reason as before. The one thing that makes siege stand out from its competition which is the camera’s, breaching and droning is insufficiently effective to have a noteworthy impact.
Meanwhile games like apex legends have made 2 billion dollars, a game that launched as a buggy beta with massive balance issues but managed to solve its fundamental issues by steadily solving the problems that were haunting the meta and the engine. Siege might not be dying, but it’s missing out on a big market by sleeping on the job, there’s money in the shooter game industry, but Ubisoft is slacking and needs to get their act together, balance the game, buff the aspects that make siege unique, balance the meta and act quickly, before R6 is too old and its competition has overtaken it beyond recovery.
Or worse, a competitor makes a better siege by simplifying it, by removing all the reinforcements from the game (as nobody wants to hardbreach, why even add such a mechanic to the game), making hallway camera’s player placeable (adding creativity and making them more reliable), spreading out the two bomb objectives (making intel significantly more important by opening more flanking routes that the defenders have to protect) and making drones faster and smaller (making them generally more effective and reliable). Resulting in a siege copycat that is both more friendly towards solo playstyles, more fair to attackers and defenders while also robbing R6 of its players by offering something similar, but superior.
Some of these points can be implemented in the basegame already by reducing the number of reinforcements, reworking the bomb placements by spreading them out further by putting them on different floors for example or with an extra room in between them, increasing the plant area’s and making all the defenders move significantly slower, thereby artificially increasing the map size.
