Starting of far cry 3 is everything far cry 2 was in terms of story but much better, the characters feel real are distinct. I wasn't expecting a lot of difference in the setting so my mind was also blown at how lush green everything was compared to the yellow in far cry 2. Another really great feature was the stealth mechanics that's introduced early in the game.
Now there were a lot of things I missed having, the most was the buddy system that far cry 2 gives you. I think it was absolutely amazing back when I first passed out in a gunfight and buddy showed up and healed me up and faught along side me. In far cry 3 all the "friends" show up after you've liberated the camp, and then shout " this is all me, alll me". Which is quite annoying, you didn't do anything.
Another really cool thing that I liked was how the weapons in far cry 2 would wear out after a while. Forcing you to try new weapons from fallen enemies, in far cry 3 this isn't an issue. I played the full game with a shotgun a sniper a assult rifle and a smg. I could tank everyone and every camp with the same combination which got pretty stale unless I pretended to make it intresting by going in and not using the sniper rifle etc.
One good thing was that malaria was no longer an issue, though even there I low key missed it because it gave a sense of urgency and kept me on my toes all the time. Intead we get some medical herbs potion thing that I didn't bother to use at all besides the health pack.
The best thing I found in far cry 3 was the animals and fire though. Fire is much better and doesn't work like a forest fire every single second like it does in 2. And the animals are pretty great addition, and great to use for distraction.
My last complaint with far cry 3 and probably the biggest is how much it holds your hand. I didn't like that my fight with Vass and the other guy was just knife fight where I was promoted every single move. The game seems to give you freedom everywhere and then suddenly takes it away when you are supposed to have it the most. It felt very anticlimatic. Infact I'd say it got a bit too linear towards then end.
Besides that I think farcry3s strengths lie in its characters and it's story. The full game plays really well. I hope ubisoft brought back the buddy system in the future games. I know 6 has buddy animals. Not gonna play it yet, but I hope it lives up to expectations and not 2 steps forward and 1 step back.

the story and character progression is what makes FC3 better in my opinion.
