I found that recently on reddit - A post describing well all the cut content. It is a "must see" as this game from 2019 was nearly done before it went to be completely build different. Here is the link: https://www.reddit.com/r/Settlers/comments/s9hu4z/list_of_things_that_seem_to_have_been_cut_from/
So... Using https://web.archive.org/: (https://web.archive.org/) and the links in the posts listed here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Settlers/comments/s9dmrx/what_happened_to_all_the_news_posts_that/
I looked at all the things in those blogs and comparing with the beta, here is my list of things that were removed from the game, in no particular order:
2) Buildings: harbour was gonna be different, there was going to be a town hall, a lot of classic military buildings like a fortress for your frontier, some resource buildings... all cut out.
3) Building levels: many buildings were able to level up, there were 3 levels, like the woodcutter who will level up and get more workers (like in S6) also, others would get different resources (mint would first produce copper coins and then silver and gold).
4) Population growth: settlers would be recruited via expeditions started in the harbour, and coins could be used to bribe them.
5) Cooking recipes: residence levels would unlock recipes (apart from the extra space) so Settlers would create food with different ingredients. One mentioned is "meat with corn" which suggests corn was a resource. This also ties to the next point...
6) Stamina: mentioned in the population one blog post too, settlers would get tired and would need to rest and recover stamina, for that, food is also required. More complex food will give more energy to them.
7) Market stalls: how would food be distributed? Market stalls. I think this is kind of the shop stalls in Settlers 6 but in a separate location from the production facility. Some resources are mentioned: meat from farms vs meat from the hunt, eggs, 3 types of forage, corn, and vegetables. The engineer tasks were divided into more specialists: frontier would be expanded by buildings, like classic games, and geologists were a thing. Builders would be trained and depending on their tier would be able to build more advanced stuff.
9) Not all settlers were the same, while carriers may be standard, workers needed to be trained (it's not mentioned if as a general thing or for specific jobs).
10) All the military stuff, I'll keep it short: There were more units that could be upgraded. It is mentioned that you would need different training grounds for units that use hammers and spears or units that use swords and axes. Walls were a thing and some units may be able to siege them (with stairs and maybe siege weapons). There was armour production, a tannery is described in a post, and it could be lightweight and surely heavy armour was a type of resource too. Also, many more types of weapons were available. Heroes existed but unlike S5, they seem not to be unique and could die. You would recruit them via tournaments.
You can find some videos of the 2019 version still on youtube up to this day:
Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section 1.10.32.

@oldtokken24 I was always under the impression that this game would be a build on from Settlers 7. The fact the game has returned to its "RTS roots" I think completely reduces the value of the game. It feels like an over complicated Age of Empires at a time when 4 came out recently.
It was their biggest mistake to "streamline" the game to a wannabe RTS in the first place. The damage is done and I don't think there is any possible way out of this misery for them.
But they should bring Volker Wertich back into the project to finish the 2019 version. The current version is a total mess and an insult to all settlers fans.
i hope that ubisoft return to develop the first feature that we can see on first gameplay/trailer. Market, arena, politics features etc.
@luvayn apparently ubisoft used "market analysies" to determine that the settlers from 2019 was a bad choice and they wanted something to go against microsofts aoe4 not realizing that there is nothing like the settlers on the market and market analysies are therefore void because theres nothing to analyze. They just had to make it as complex as it was 2019 and probably got another Anno 1800 which is so successfull because of its complexity... And you cant compete against AOE in the first place so these decisions were the dumbest stuff they'd ever done...
@Ubisoft just look at what indie developers like Coffee stain studios and Youthcat Studio have done with their early access games. they are factory building games, which i consider to be really boring, but they listen to EVERYTHING their players want in those games, except maybe golf, that was a bit troll... however they are really successfull because of that and get amazing support. idk how you can sleep well if you look at this forum and tbh No mans sky developers have gotten death threats because their game was nothing like they promised. I'm amazed that hadnt happened here yet... However please just put the alpha state for 10 bucks or so in the shop and use your "market analysies" on what will be played more.... This beta game is not a settlers.
@zombee003 That's a very good point. Settlers always was a nice title - and in that a so called ever-green niche. That means that when they would have stayed in their respective need (and listen to player as you mentioned) they could have made more sells than with a AoE4-Wanne-Be. However, I highly doubt that because of a market analysis they changed the game- I think it was more like: What is popular at the moment in gaming? Oh, every one is talking about AoE4... How about we make a game like this? This is also seen in the 3 races catering to Esports (just look at Starcraft 2 - 3 races except Starcraft is a phenomenal RTS with the races being fundamentally different. And the focus stayed on military not economy).
At this point Ubisoft just should break the silence and come clear with its community: Admitting that it was a mistake and restoring the Settlers to Volker Wertichs Vision and the version from 2019. This would also earn them the respect back from the player community. Not over night but after time passes they will be resprected again, especially when they give Settlers the Anno 1800 treatment. And they would also earn more money - classical win-win Situation for Ubisoft: Players are happy => more sells => Ubisoft is happy (Law of reciprocity)
So... I've played ALL The Settlers games for PC until now and I was really hyped for this one based on how amazing it was shown back in 2019.
All that type of food, upgrades, new resources, military buildings needed to expand territory... The lack of all of these in this beta just make me feel really sad so I won't buy this game anymore.
For me the best Settlers game EVER is still Settlers 2. If you guys make a remake of it I'll definetely buy it.
@oldtokken24 yes I agree this whole time I have been waiting to play the 2019 version. every few months [censored] look for info about what was happening found nothing. I didn't ask for my money back for pre order and it stayed in my library. I had it removed and re ordered it and got the same old logo and old gamer back in library.
@oldtokken24
I havnt been following it as closely as you clearly have..
Has Ubisoft even bothered to comment on this abomination of a game they are putting out or is just a full frontal "We dont care"?
@bonlgon It was easier to see what the game was about a few days ago as the 2 1h-long streams on BlueByte's official twitch channel were still up. Unfortunately they have been taken down on friday after it was brought to attention to the community how much was lost in the development and how many promises have been broken. The game in 2019 was the better version of the game and when this new version got released it seems like Ubisoft actively tried to erase the old one: the settlers alliance has been taken down (only way to see the blog posts are with the archive) and the twitch streams are not available anymore (but there are still some youtube videos up)
I am really wondering what has been done over the last few years and why an almost finished product although it was anticipated by the community got changed completly? And there is still no official response except we are aware of some issues and its just a beta they are working on it to finish it on release date. But make no mistake - there will not be much changes. How much work can be done in 2 months anyway? The release window is set this early because they want to get it out as soon as possible thats why they have only given themself 2 months to release it. It feels like: Show them the beta, do not speak up about it - Llet's remain silent and hope that many people do not look up the older version: Just release it to make some quick money and be done with it. And it backfired massively - It went from a "must-have" to "do you really expect me to buy this?". It went from a settlers game combining all the best features of all the settlers game who came before to a game which is not even a settlers anymore...
TLDR:
Ubisoft should work in the upcoming future to not only improve the settlers but to also bring back all the features promised in 2019 - When they have a dedicated "sandbox" mode of the old version with all its features for singleplayer it would be a good start for them to win trust back (and money). They can still keep their competitive RTS as multiplayer skirmish mode - They just need to improve it (My suggestions: make the races feel more unique, work out the production chains, seperate the engineer into geologist and builder + expansion should be done by tower occupied by soldiers again - also different types of fortification: in the older games there have been towers, forts and fortresses (something like that). And bring back walls, upgrades to buildings, more unit types)
Do we know what the difference is between this beta and the final, or are these all the options you have in the final versus the beta? is that known? What I'm missing so far; upgrading houses and other buildings, I miss my main castle. I miss building walls. In terms of army it is not that extensive, where are the horses and the canons?
@rudyman85 That's a good question. One that many players ask themselves, especially now after seeing and playing the beta for themselves. Unfortunately, there is no answer to you question yet - We have no informationen about the campaign yet except that it will tell the story about the Elari over 13 mission (If i remember correctly).
But be cautious: When you expect massive changes from the beta you have seen to the features from the alpha (as discussed above) you might be very disappointed.
The features described above have been in the alpha version of 2019 and shown in trailers and in 2 1h-long streams by the developers explaining what to expect from the settlers (hence the topic: Bring back the version of 2019). Back then the focus was not on the skirmish matches as it is now but more on a Build-up sandbox. I encourage you to watch the videos as they show the game players have anticipated since 2019. For the time beeing it is safe to assume that all this features are truly missing from the game. If they will return remains to be seen.
One peculiarity during this beta fiasco: Ubisoft is astonishingly quit - So either they have a big reveal in store (What I hope for them - because as the state of the game is in now it is a hard pass - but highly doubt) or they remain silent because they have nothing to say. Either way I hope they listen to not only the feedback but also consider to bring back the version as dedicated singleplayer sandbox.
@oldtokken24
It's sad to see that the game looked much better in 2019 than in 2022 (more resources, more buildings, etc). What happened ?
@enapets We can only guess. But it is not as much important what happened as it is what the future plan is for the settlers. When they focus on imprving the game by bringing back all the old mising features and reverting their vision and the state of the game to the game shown in 2019 (at least for a singleplayer sandbox). The game will be in a much better shape and in my opinion I would rather have the version of 2019 even if its not fully completed when it is released (as long as they will work on it) than what we have now.
That would create a solid foundation (as anno 1800 did for future season pass dlc content) for fruther dlc as they did for anno 1800 to create another fantastic game. They did it one with anno (still do as season 4 will arrive this year) they can and should do it for the settlers as well - it only benefits them instead. But what could harm them severly is bringing the game out as it is now - as a (as it is often described now in the past days) mobile game lacking in depth and future for 60-80 bucks (depending on which version) with a ingame-shop to further add insult to injury.
I really loved the look of the game of the year 2019 too.
It had the feeling of the good-old-times of the settler-genre. That version I tried right now did´nt feel good. It felt kind of boring, nothing spectacular in to wait for, nothing interesting to explore, build or experience.
There are quite better RTS out, that I would prefer, and that´re filled up with more interesting content.
But what I really hoped for, was that good old settler, with tons of goods, commodity chains, nice ideas like the gardeners against the dark and just the scurrying factor the old settlers were made of.
@exuragran They did remake it. The Settlers 2 - 10 Year Anniversary Edition - Its came out between Settlers 5 and 6. It just didn't make it into the collection.

@jumbles69 Even though remasters are quit a nice idea they should not only focus on polishing older versions of the game and bring them out as remasters - I do not want to play the same game over and over again every 5 years (It did also not work for Blizzard). It is fun to have a remaster as some sort of appetizer while waiting for a new entry in the series to build up anticipation in the player base before they release the newest entry in the series. Could work quit fine with the new the settlers and the history edition.
But yet again: With the current state of the game they would not the themselves a favor even when bringing out a remaster of an older settlers game - The community yearns for a new game and the settlers shown back then could have been that. And even for other build-up fans like anno it would have been a nice switch in scenery. What Ubisoft will do next remains to be seen.
