What do you spend your stars on?

What do you recommend I do?

Exotics cost 20 stars, named items I think are 8. I’m not aware of any named items that I don’t already have that I would use regularly. There are several Exotics I know I don’t have, and a few I would like (Vile Mask, Pestilence) but it seems that even though I don’t have many exotics, I invariably get duplicates of the few I have… I have at least three of every exotic shotgun. 😞

Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section 1.10.32.

@virtual-chris I buy named items. I have received (The Apartment, Dark winter, The Gift) from them

Only use them for Named Caches. It is the only way you can get some DZ exclusive items. All over global event star purchases are easily obtained normally.

There was one time I had 16 stars and bought then immediately opened 2 named caches in same minute and received the exact same item. Not very RNG lol. So out of habit I wait few minutes in between if I have 16 or 24 stars to spend in one go.

As noted, DZ exclusive items can drop from named item caches. IIRC, you were looking for a hollow man mask recently. Otherwise, I used them on optimization caches.

Always Named - best value, unless you have a gRoll version of each.

Though since you don't have all the Exotics, I can understand going that route. I'd say go by your prioritization - is the top of your list a Named Item or Exotic?

This Guardians Event the named caches are flying in fast!

So much fun and easy mode to burn through summit. But it is hilarious for Floor 100 hunters...the guardians hang back from the door, only their immune buddies go in most of the time 😄

Still mourning "The Gift" I got and deconstructed in my early days (admittedly, had bad rolls) 😀

There is a named items you could get "Claws out" Wyven wear which has 500 % melee damage and an extra 9 % pistol damage and another stat of your choice re-calibrate it if you don't like the stat on it - a must for a shield build. This item will not drop out of the dark zone. So basically if you don't do the dark zone its your chance to pick up items that you normally would not come across.

You don't have to hit the guy 20 times with your shield anymore I use it for events like the one going right now there are tasks that require you to use a shield so its always good to add "Claws out" to your inventory.

I'd also totally go for the named items.

Because there are a lot of different ways to farm exotics out of GEs. But except for invaded missions you can't really directly farm named items. So that's one reason to buy named item caches.

Another one for me would be that I use named items much more often than exotics. Exotics for me are great for fun / niche builds (e. g. Gunslinger Holster & Regulus, Vile, Chameleon) – and I try to avoid using the most overpowered ones too often (e. g. Scorpio, Capacitor, Memento) as turn on the easy-mode too often for my liking. But named items are great for creating several different builds. You can incorporate different versions of one named items in several builds (e. g. Fox's Prayers – use it with a blue core attribute in a 3-3-0 run&gun-build, use it with yellow core attribute and Skill Damage in any skill build that actually utilizes shooting) or bring an interesting twist to otherwise completed builds (e. g. swapping the Contractor's Gloves for the Deathgrips in a Gunner build for more survivability). So I really like to hoard as many nicely rolled named items as possible 😉 ...

And the last one – as already mentioned: the caches are great for getting the DZ-only named items. And there are a lot of very very interesting named items which otherwise could only be found inside the DZ.

So yeah... spend all your stars on named item caches!

Thanks all... solid advice. I need to do an inventory review and see what named items and exotics I have vs what I'm missing. Hopefully I can find a comprehensive list somewhere.

So I looked through my stash and this is my current situation...

    Exotics:

    • I have 18 of 30 Exotics but can't get the 2 Raid exclusives and I'm working on Ridgeway's pride, so my pool is really only 27. So I'm missing 9 exotics. Out of those, the Pestilence is probably the most interesting. The Vile mask could help with my Eclipse build, the rest are unlikely to see much use.

    Named Gear Items:

    • Backpacks 8 of 9 (missing Force Multiplier)
    • Chest 8 of 11 (missing Ferocious Calm, Hunter-Killer, Door Kickers Knock)
    • Gloves 2 of 3 (missing Motherly Love)
    • Holster 2 of 3 (missing Ammo Dump)
    • Kneepads 1 of 2 (missing Emperor's Guard)
    • Masks 2 of 3 (missing Hollow Man)

    Named Weapons:

    • 35 of 44 (missing 9 - most wanted would be Pinprick and Harmony) - Note I have 7 DZ exclusive items I obtained outside the DZ

So bottom line is that I have 18 of 30 exotics (60%) and 58 of 75 named items (77%)... and I would like about 2 items from each pool. I guess it doesn't really matter. My chances of getting what I want are slim - dupes are likely. But I can get 2.5 named items for every exotic with my stars. Hmmm.

    @virtual-chris

You've got an excel spreadsheet somewhere for this I bet! Pokemon, gotta catch em all.

My advice is that Exotics you can work on the projects or targetted loot to get them anytime. There is no time limit.

Global Events however is prime time for named caches which is gold dust to get DZ exclusives. Forget exotics for the next 5 days until global event is over and grind for named caches!

Yeah, I found a spreadsheet online and just tallied my inventory against it. I’m betting the DZ exclusive named items I have probably came from previous caches. So might as well use these stars to try and get more DZ exclusive named items.

Opened 8 named items crates… 8 duplicates. Ah well. Such is life when you have the majority of items I guess 🙂 At least I got a Dark Winter with better roles. Thanks for the advice.

Gloves 2 of 3 (missing Motherly Love)
Holster 2 of 3 (missing Ammo Dump)

Those two items can not be farmed and I have not yet seen them drop from a cache, so I'd say there is only one way of obtaining them: crafting.

You can craft both the gloves and the holster with blueprints from the Technician and the Firewall Field Research.

8 named caches. So you've obtained 64 stars. Wow you're doing some serious grinding last couple of days.

    @qapnugget

I'm now playing with two directives on Challenging which gives me a 50% boost on XP and getting one star for each level so it went pretty quick. I have just been running around doing random encounters and the territory controls, convoys, patrols and civilian execution things. I did Solar Farm CP both days to restock on blue resources but doing Control Points with this event active is absolute chaos. LOL.

For sure not exotics. Those are so easy to get compared to the named items that it's a no brainier.

@virtual-chris I've been doing much the same except on Challenging I went from 2 to 4 directives. Mostly because I read better rolls will happen. So far that's not happened at all, its gone downhill. Especially at Solar Farm. I mixed it up with two patrols, one Elite, then some in the back occasions plus a Drone that took a dislike to me. I was lucky to survive, another hit a few times would have ended it. For a time I could just cruise thru without being noticed. Now it seems not as much. Maybe I got to greedy🤤
