Vallhalla and Odyssey are two of the best crafted video game worlds of all time. They feel grounded, you want to explore them, their landscapes are visual masterpieces. They inspire imagination. These are the staple of live service games in my opinion. They were supported for a long amount of time and substantial/real content was added. The combat is addictive, the skill tree lets you create your own experience. The discovery modes are proof alone you guys give a damn about the worlds you create. The music is stellar. The set pieces are some of the best in games. I cannot stress enough of how great these experiences have been. If I had to take a stab at what I did not like, it would be these things.
The endings haven't been that well done. I have not played the final update yet. However Odyssey's bad ending was substantially better written than the strange good ending, with estranged family wrestling around a table.Vallhalla's shoulders/pauldrons were pretty distracting. The football pads were not a good choice. I hide most cloaks.Giant enemies. Something about giant enemies is very off putting. Not a fan of it in either game. I guess it is a way to differentiate the enemies, but it looks goofy.Love/Hate- There's too many things to collect, but the exploration is fun most of the time. It's at its worst when you are shooting a door barricade through some window to open the door. Love/Hate- Skills; Some make the game too easy, like dodging slowing down the world around you. I discarded that one due to it taking away from my experience. I would like to be able to have more than 4 equipped, maybe a wheel? The copy paste dialogue animations. The cutscenes are strange. Characters doing the same movements, weird nods and expressions. I particularly dislike that after a boss fight the boss and I are standing and talking casually. Bleh. The mythic dlc's are outstanding, but when you guys expand on the in game's 'real' world you tend to do a lot better. Ireland was absolutely beautiful.Character customization is lacking outside of tattoos and armors.Wish mounts played a bigger role than just allowing me to travel faster. Cavalry battle? Chariot battles? Make sure all weapons are fun to play. The single sword's animations in vallhalla are a little goofy looking, and that dropkick execution is worse lol. Odyssey had better combat animations overall.Disguising yourself and blending in are worthless when you are a murder machine. The mechanics are good, but they are only good for role playing around. They do nothing for your experience once you've leveled up high enough. The Dragon's Dogma 'pawn' style system didn't do much for me here. Maybe the Jomsviking needed to be fleshed out more.
In future titles (outside of the dislikes being made better) I'd like to see bigger sieges, bigger naval battles, maybe some actual territory and army governing. Like conquested territories could give benefits to your kingdom in real time. I'm all about more dismemberment and brutal combat, but want to see more fleshed out stealth mechanics. Whoever the hell is in charge of your guys' world building, DO NOT let them go. They are amazing. I'd like to see more intricate set pieces. The castle in Jotunheim is too [censored] cool!
Thank you guys, you are awesome. These games are some of the best I've played.
