Season 8 Challenger League Week 5 Recap

As we near the end of the Challenge League season, the action is heating up across both North America and Europe while the Latin American games have been put on hold.

Europe (EU)

With both Team Empire and ENCE eSports confirming their place in the Challenger League playoffs last week, the competition has gotten even more fierce for the final two spots to remain in Challenger League. TrainHard eSports pushed themselves up to third place after two dominating victories over T3H Esports and DeathroW, the bottom two teams in the league. Meanwhile, Overtime eSport’s victory over EnD Gaming means the two teams are drawing on twelve points in fourth position, as Overtime’s head-to-head round difference keeps them in the lead.

While unlikely to affect the standings, we had a shocking result between ENCE eSports and T3H Esports, as the second placed team in the league drew against the seventh placed team on a closely contested matchup on Border. While unexpected, one point is unlikely to help the struggling T3H Esports side as they sit five points off of the playoff spots with just two weeks remaining.

North America (NA)

Team SiNister, who had just slipped outside of the top four last week, had two of the biggest games of their season this week as they played the second and third-placed teams of The Nomads and Disrupt Gaming. Despite going down on attack 2-3 in both games, SiNister still earned two points overall in their sixth and seventh draw of the season, a current Challenger League record.

These draws from the second to fifth-placed teams all mean that Elephant Gang increases their lead to the top of the table thanks to two 6-1 victories over Miner Esports and Vicious Gaming (previously known as FLAWLESS GG). This now means that Elephant Gang needs just one more victory in their remaining four games to guarantee themselves a place in the playoffs.

Latin America (LATAM)

No Latin American games were played this week as the games were delayed to Tuesday October 16th.

Next week will be the penultimate playday of games and so will consist of must-win games for almost every team playing. In Europe, 3DMAX will be hoping to close the gap on the top four as they play TrainHard Esports while the two last placed teams of T3H Esports and DeathroW play in what is likely to be DeathroW’s last chance of the season to get their very first win. Meanwhile, in North America, Disrupt Gaming will play against both Elephant Gang and The Nomads which, with four teams within four points of them, will be crucial matches for the team to win.
