In 2019, Ubisoft’s French-based CSR team launched a partnership with Le Refuge, a French foundation fighting to prevent isolation and suicide among LGBTQ+ youth who are victims of homophobia or transphobia or often separated from their families. In just one year, the organization has sheltered more than 300 individuals and has helped many others through psychological and administrative support.
The partnership kicked off with the creation of a playroom in Paris with TVs, consoles, video games, but also books, comics, manga, and board games. The team at Ubisoft Montpellier also collected food and clothing donations.
In addition, Ubisoft decided to financially support Le Refuge with an annual donation of €10,000. Team members can also contribute through salary donations. In January 2020, team members voted to add Le Refuge to the list of associations they can donate to, and more than 70 have already contributed.
Despite the current health crisis, upcoming work will include the renovation of one of Refuge’s shelter apartments, providing gaming sessions in Ubisoft’s French studios, offering coaching sessions to support occupational integration, opening new playrooms, and more.
