Ubisoft Halifax Celebrates 10 Years of Game Development on Canada’s East Coast

[STUDIO HALIFAX] 10 Years of Ubisoft Halifax! - 10 Year - Group

At Our Studio

The past ten years have been marked by growth and change. The studio team has doubled in size, sustained a wonderful title with Assassin's Creed Rebellion and we continue to develop our expertise in mobile game development.

Together, we've built a culture rooted in mentorship, creativity and inclusion, becoming more than just a group of talented teams who work together to build games - we play music, share meals, and work together to support projects and deliver amazing work.

Supporting the East Coast Ecosystem

One of our proudest achievements has been helping to positively shape the local video game ecosystem. In 2017, we co-founded the Interactive Society of Nova Scotia, bringing together studios across the province to foster collaboration and creativity within the industry. Since then, the organization has played a key role in the success of Game Dev Atlantic and has opened doors for East Coast studios to gain visibility on the global stage through major industry events.

In 2016, we established a sought after internship program with support from our provincial co-operative education program, welcoming over 60 students to date. Students with backgrounds in art, computer science, and engineering have been mentored and onboarded to active projects to get on-the-job experience, and many of our students have returned for subsequent semesters and as full-time hires. We were awarded Top Co-op in 2017 by Dalhousie University and continue to be nominated by our students term after term.

Engaging with our Community

A core tenet of Ubisoft Halifax is engagement within our greater Halifax community. Our producers and directors have spoken at schools and conferences, our staff have volunteered for everything from game jams to emergency wildfire relief, and we use every opportunity to raise money for local groups such as Out of the Cold, Youth Project, Pearleen Oliver Education Fund, and Feed Nova Scotia.

We also bring the community to us! Through Ubisoft ABRAXA, a program that connects artists to residency opportunities in Ubisoft Studios worldwide, we've hosted an artist in residence, Sage Sidley. Sage is a local artist and part-time professor at NSCAD in Halifax. Over six months, Sage worked with volunteers from within our studio to record sounds, animate a server room, and develop an installation to present during an opening night. We also hosted a Music Series to share our space with local musicians Sam Wilson, Clever Hopes, and Zamani Folade. We also participated in Nocturne, Halifax's art-at-night event, and we opened our doors to school tours, Make-A-Wish families, and other partners!

As we reflect on ten years in Halifax, we're filled with gratitude for the people who've grown with us, the community that's welcomed us, and the partners who've helped us thrive. From building games to building connections, every milestone has been shaped by collaboration, creativity, and care.

Here's to a decade of shared success and to continuing that journey together.
